A rational person would think that this is a bad omen for the emerging Trump Presidency……these nominations should be shut down faster than Harriet Mayers Supreme Court nomination ( baring in mind that she was more qualified for the post than these yahoos) The reaction of Trump if the rational rejection of these nominees by a senate that actually took governing seriously would be telling. Is this a sign of Trump’s incompetence that would be a sliver of hope or this illustration of the reality that the Republican Party is a wholly owned subsidiary of Trump inc?

With the qualifier, this is going to hurt people and make us weak as a country, the Trump picks, the Project 2025(I am not supposed to say that right?) guidance reeks not even of a meaningful transition into a competent evil entity. So many of these people have zero experience or inclination to large scale management in a given specialty. Gabbard doesn’t. They just seem to go, Military, cool. Gaetz, well he pretty much understands one side of the legal profession. Not the one that requires skills and experience to operate as the AG. Rubio is a fearless warrior?
Cronies do not make make good abettors if they are incompetent. Too many picks are paybacks for support and favors given. Too many have very narrow views with pet peeves, beliefs and projects as their signature reason for existing. Again, limited vision, lack of skill sets and relevant experience just doesn’t hold the ship together, even if it is a smuggling vessel trying to walk off with a nation’s treasures. Trump I had its issues in terms of the above, Trump II is upping the ante with a serious revenge streak. I am going to go out there a bit and say by June, Trump and his people will be the most hated in our history. Not just by the opposition but by his supporters as well.

I agree with you and honestly, I’m starting to think this is perhaps the only way we might break the damn fever. This is worse that anyone imagined and he’s not even in the White House yet. The hubris and overreach are outrageous. Does Trump have much leverage at this point in terms of hurting future careers? Not that I can see. He’s done - he’s reached the pinnacle. The only way from here is down.

My main source of comfort this last week has been that these idiots are so blindingly incompetent that it will probably rebound horribly in their faces, especially given narrow non-landslide-y majorities.

Exactly! Calling it a “slim” majority is weak. Let’s face it, what it is is a major Democratic Party failure. He’s done it twice now. Biden/Harris cleaned up his first presidency mess and deserve better. But to lose the House and Senate is ridiculous. It’s the only firewall left to hold off the crazies for two years. There’s little in their way now, once again, but for their own incompetance.

It may become a big, big issue, if the USD is no longer the world’s reserve currency. I know the tech bros all believe whatever crypto they currently favour is going to become the new reserve currency, but I wouldn’t hold my breath on that one (especially once power outages thanks to climate change and the failure to update infrastructure) become a bigger and bigger issue.

It’s quite possible that Maga Mike Johnson pleaded with Trump to give House bomb-thrower Matt Gaetz the AG solely to get him out of the House.
