Pikes are getting sharpened.

My first thought was similar, yet different. “GOP Senators shaken … but not hard enough.”

Yes. I’m sure several will express their “concern.”

Further note of pedantry, we inherited that rule from the Andrew Johnson impeachment nearly 200 years ago. But why get so hot and bothered about the VP’s political bent when all 100 senators have a political bent, including those from the opposition party? And if we’re going to impute non-pure motives, what about the chief justice’ interest in having a president who will nominate judges that will preserve his one-vote majority, or even his successor?

More pedantry: this CJ tie-breaking rule is quite interesting in that it indicates that during a presidential impeachment trial the senate can override black letter constitutional law. The constitution does not carve out an impeachment exception for the VP’s tie-breaking role. So what else can they override?

He doesn’t need to rule on it. A tie vote means the proposition being voted on did not pass. End of story. And since he doesn’t need to rule, he certainly won’t seek out an opportunity to do so.

A little bit of this:

I am sure the entire R caucus has traumatic brain injury by now with all that shaking.

I think shaken doesn’t mean they’re going to vote differently. It means that after the trial is over some of them will start heading for the fat sinecure jobs more quickly than previously expected.

Goodness, gracious! Great Balls of Fire!

Sure. Be nice if this trial had an outcome with a finality-- in removal. But it’s not an end-game either for Rs or Trump. Ds calculus all along have factored in what comes next-- in the chain-of-influence to persuade the electorate to vote him out.

It’s been a long-game. It’ll continue as a long-game.

Then of course they will be troubled, followed by deeply troubled, then perhaps one or two will be flabbergasted. But not Mitt Romney, he is still hoping to get a Cabinet position, so he will stick with mildly concerned which perhaps could be ratcheted up to somewhat consternated for the right audience.

Yep…shaken, but not stirred.

It is time for Republican senators to stop protecting Trump’s job and start protecting their own. Of course, most importantly they should do the right thing, but that ship sailed long ago. Do they think that John Bolton’s book will be the last one about Trump’s criminality? There will be as many books as the White House has had employees. History has shown that when people knew, yet did nothing, they are forever scorned for their cowardice. It will be true for them and their Party. They will richly deserve the regret that will burden their last years in this country that claim to love yet so enthusiastically betrayed.

“The sources told Politico that Republican senators will plan its next move during its conference lunch on Monday.”

I’d like to hear a recording of that.

There’s a whole lotta shakin’ goin on. Yeah, shakin’ down.

Seriously - President Trump barely knew the man. A few photos taken with him but thousands of people have had photos taken with the President. More people than posed with Obama in his two terms. More evidence? President Trump hates moustaches! How could we believe the claims of someone with a moustache to have worked closely with Our Beloved Leader? Fake News. /s
