He has to have known, and from the get-go. On the day he announced Pence as his running mate, Trump said–OUT LOUD–that he chose Pence to ensure party unity. That’s not the sort of thing one says when one’s choice is not one’s first/best/preferred choice.

In a country where Jerry Springer has a super-popular, long-running show; where monster truck rallies and eating at McDonald’s are all the rage, it’s not at all surprising that Ivanka would be “loved”. There’s a huge swath of Americans who eat circus peanuts, pork rinds and watch Fox News, so maybe Drumpf knows his deplorable base better than his advisors do. Remember, Sarah Palin was extremely popular.
