President Donald Trump is reportedly getting fed up with Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Unnamed advisers told the Times that Trump hasn’t given Fauci the ax yet because the doctor still serves a useful purpose: having a good rapport with the public and thereby lending credibility to the administration’s response to the coronavirus outbreak.
If imPotus fires Fauci, who’s he going to replace him with? A faith healer? Martin Shkreli? Bring back Rick Perry to pray away the virus?
I didn’t think Fauci would last this long. tRump has a fragile ego, and pouts when he is not the center of attention or viewed as the smartest in the room. Everyone else in those briefings is too afraid to do what Fauci does- set the record straight in real time.
Anyone remember when these briefings started, and tRump wasn’t there? Then he started showing up for the briefings, now he is the briefing.
Without Fauci, these briefings are purely tRump propaganda.
I understand Trump wanting to get the economy re-started, surviving coronavirus just to die from starvation or exposure after getting evicted ain’t exactly a solution.
However in the two weeks since the lockdown started the Trump administration has done nothing other than praise the “decisive leadership” of the Dear Leader. We still don’t have testing, ventilators, community medicine programs or anything else that would allow people to get to work under a more limited risk of infection and ways to prevent overwhelming the hospitals by keeping sick people at their homes.
If Fauci gets the boot there will officially be no one left with even an ounce of credibility tackling this crisis at the highest levels of government. That should scare the hell out of everyone.
Alex Azar, Secretary of Health and Human Services or Robert Redfield, Head of the CDC, or Francis Collins, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director should be behind the president. Dr. Redfield is a trained virologist and the CDC has more experience managing epidemics than the NIH.
As Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, this is not Anthony Fauci’s place or role. He is simply one member in the COVID task force and should not be bearing the brunt of the president’s deranged behaviors. The President needs someone who will be loyal and back up his lies with conservative facts.
Indeed. From the Wikipedia entry for Saint Anthony:
Anthony went to preach in Rimini, where the heretics treated him with contempt. So, instead he took himself to the shore-line and began to preach to the fish. A great crowd of fish arrayed themselves. The citizens flocked to see this marvel, and Anthony charged them with the fact that irrational creatures were more receptive than the unfaithful of Rimini, at which point the people gave ear to his sermons.[8]
