Fauci is being used as a prop. His presence, though reassuring, is giving Trump false credibility and from my point of view has not changed any actual White House pandemic management policy. I’m in the minority, but Fauci should resign.
Maybe at least some of the 43% who support Trump will change their minds when the daily death rate climbs beyond 1000 and we could be there in a week or less if Trump has his way.
OT
" Last week, the United Kingdom’s Conservative Party unveiled a plan to keep British workers paid and employed for the duration of the coronavirus crisis. The Tory proposal would effectively cover 80 percent of sidelined workers’ salaries, while forbidding employers who accept the government’s help from laying off staff. The policy closely resembles one implemented by Denmark’s Social Democrats, except that Boris Johnson’s wage-replacement rate is slightly more generous than the Danish left’s. Although the Conservatives have a well-earned reputation for sacrificing Britain’s vulnerable on the altar of deficit reduction, even they recognize that social welfare must take precedence over budgetary concerns in the context of a historically sudden and deep economic crisis. On Friday, Tory chancellor Rishi Sunak announced that there would be no limit on the funding available for covering workers’ wages."
He could still hold interviews and really say what he thinks without worrying about Trump’s reactions. If Trump was smart he would not fire him so he could have some control over what he says but he will probably fire him.
Well, the past 24 hours makes it perfectly clear the GOP puts more value on money than human life because apparently to them being poor is worse than being dead.
It’s the work that he’s doing while not on the podium as a prop which is why he shouldn’t resign.
Trump’s all bluster and uninterested in the details of anything. We need people like Fauci running things, so that the actual apparatus of government doesn’t fall apart under this regime.
If Fauci resigns, his role will be turned over to some college kid, whose entire experience in the field is BIO101, and who will be in the position to actively dismantle and hinder the response.
He hasn’t ordered anyone not to go to work. The mayors and governors have done that. What I can see is his threatening these folks with cut off of Federal aid, such as it is, along with other threats and bullying, if they don’t.
No one can be too critical of Doctor Dumb Fuck Don.
I see your point. I’m just not convinced his role here on out is anything but that of an enabler. Fauci’s a good guy, but he’s seventy fucking nine himself. Most folks are retired by that age. I sense a lot of “savior hubris” in him. That and he loves his job too much to move on.

In the face of crisis, FDR had the New Deal to help suffering Americans. Now,
@realdonaldtrump, you and your fellow Republicans are pushing the #SelfDeal. See the difference?

There goes that nasty woman again…
He runs the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, also was a player in the Ebola response, which you may remember with a competent government played out much differently.
Many doctors have that ego, something about having power over life and death gets to them.
What he’s bringing to the table that’s value-add is all the stuff that we’re not seeing publicly, it’s the government prep and work happening behind the scenes (until/unless trump or jared find out about it and fuck things up), totally agree these briefings are largely non-value-add show.
As if I cared that he is growing tired of Dr. Fauci. It is my hope that someone stands up to this orange menace and tells him simply to ‘Shut the f*ck up’ during one of these pressers. Now that would make my highlight reel !
As to Dr. Fauci, I have mixed feelings about him…principally because he has associated himself with this administration in this way. If you’re going to work for an *sshole, some of that shite is going to rub off on you.
This is pure gold, please allow me to tweek…
KAG = Killing America’s Grandparents…
I am sure he will be shocked and not in a Casablanca sort of way to discover that Governors are not lifting state restrictions upon the demand of the Great Leader. After all since he has no clue how the federal government works he certainly has no clue about what federalism is. Watching his confusion and dismay could be quite entertaining.
I’m expecting him to threaten to withhold federal funding to any (blue, natch) states that refuse to reverse their stay-at-home mandates. Hell, I’m expecting him to force Barr to prosecute those governors (just make up the crime…unfealty to Dear Leader?). It’s going to be a shit show.
Off topic and Irony Alert.
What funding? If we had federal support my wife would not have spent the last three days making surgical masks for the local hospital.
Missing Fauci is bad for ratings, Trumpie. (via Political Wire)
