Before it obtained documents from the Trump White House last month, the National Archives reportedly issued a threat to the former president’s team, saying that it planned to alert Congress and the Justice Department if Trump did not immediately resolve a months-long back and forth to turn over records, according to CNN.
We’ve talking and making jokes about how Trump was used to ripping up documents since it was reported in 2018 by Politico. It is now 2022. This is not a joke, a quirk, it is an example of Trump doesn’t care about rules-that his staff couldn’t figure out how to manage him.
Nine months is a hell of a lot of time to be negotiating over something that should have been resolved a month.
Wonder who was first to figure out that the entirety of American democracy relies on good faith, and merely abandoning good faith would tilt, then destroy the entire experiment?
The people talking about Trump and his handling of records know as much about psychology, criminology and general human behavior as any individuals who are just a phone call away from competent experts in the above.
At some point, the “blame” for this debacle shifts to inclusion of those committed to doing as little as possible about the issue they are tasked to deal with.
Well Trump just crushed all the fig leaves that the GOP is the party of Lincoln.

And all of Trump’s elected minions have followed suit.
Good question. It’s been clear for some time that our system of government only works as long as everyone agrees to play by the rules. As soon as one party or individual (such as a president) refuses to act according to the understood and agreed upon guidelines, all bets are off - there are very few tools in the toolbox to force compliance if one is determined to thwart the rules and has enough allies to tie up the control systems.
ETA This applies just as much to Moscow Mitch as it does to TDFG or the state legislatures that refuse to comply with constitutional amendments passed by the people.
I think this part is where the lawyers, ie @txlawyer, comes in and reminds us that the penalties for not complying with the Presidential Records Act have little to no teeth.
If the Justice Department had to list all possible criminal acts that Trump committed in a 4 year time span while in the office we’d still be uncovering crimes two years from now.
I think we have to assume that some top secret stuff got to Putin, MBS, and Xi. TDFG and Kushner were both in up to their necks selling out our security and the nation’s assets.
Exactly. It’s the “governing” equivalent of the harassment lawsuit that DJT endlessly uses. I feel like Mitch is somebody who shows up at a chess tournament and rigs the clocks. Then Donald shows up and just pisses all over the board while the mouth-breathers cheer.
Of course there are missing docs. Down the toilet, down to Florida, down his gullet. Down to Moscow, most likely.
I don’t spend time on social media so maybe someone here can help me out? When “her emails” came out, the whole Republican party, with the complicit news media, went full court press to destroy Hillary’s candidacy. How loudly are the Dems and the news talking about this?
