Just for clarity, Officer Blabbylips is not the same cop taking selfies with Alpha Male Insurrectionist.

I think the tricky part is, the only (public) evidence against the officer is that he revealed the secret location to a non-insurrectionist, who dobbed him in. The article is a little unclear as to the timing, he could have revealed it after the event, when telling his friend how it all went down.

Clearly, the manner and details of what he told the friend alarmed the friend enough to make the friend turn him in, but thereā€™s no public evidence that the cop told the insurrectionists where Congress was hiding.

Quite right. But the fact that he did tell now means that secure location is compromised.

ā€œIf you want to take a photo, Iā€™m not going to say no because we are always told to interact and keep the situation calm.ā€

White rioters end up with a selfie for a keepsake, and black suspects not accused of rioting end up dead. What pathetic liars.

Pretty weak sauce all around. So some cops who were way outnumbered and in no position to fight back let the insurrectionists take selfies instead of getting their heads bashed in. K.

Look forward to the charges against senior leadership who allowed there to be too few cops on hand to deal with the crowd.

You sound ā€œsoft on crimeā€.

Find me the crime.

Loose lips sink ships. If disclosing such locations is not yet a crime it should be made into one.

One officer accused of improper dissemination of information ā€” for allegedly talking with a friend about the secure location to which lawmakers were evacuated within the Capitol ā€” said he couldnā€™t deny the allegation.

This one needs to be fired and prosecuted. The rest? They were stupid, but I donā€™t think taking a picture should be a terminable offense.

If every military/LEO that let slip in discussion with buddies details that probably shouldnā€™t be let out about some operation they were involved in was put to pasture, I venture weā€™d not have any substantive force of either.

Agree that this may not have been illegal, but itā€™s still a big deal. I was looking for more details on when/what was said before posting more. Thanks for the Daily Beast lead.

So not as bad as if the guy was actively cooperating with the insurrectionists on 1/6 and this leak could not have put anyone at risk on the day of the event. (But is potentially useful for future coups).

Still, most people would be immediately fired if they improperly handled customer, confidential, or secure data. This is all of those. There should be significant repercussions for this.

Should it still be a crime when itā€™s disclosed a week after the danger has passed?

For what, bragging to his decades-long ā€œfriendā€ (who is the real piece of shit here) a week later about his role in the big day?

Show me a vet or LEO who hasnā€™t talked about their escapades at some point to someone.

Literally thousands of people know these ā€œsecretā€ locations, from architects to builders to janitors to Congressional staffers. It may be a ā€œsecretā€, but unless he handed over maps to it, very weak sauce.

Details about Congressā€™ s physical security are an order of magnitude more important than where the Humvees are stored.

The informant destroyed a 40 year friendship because he was concerned about where this guy was coming from. The guy denies it. Probability is that further investigation would show we would.be better off with him.off the forceā€¦

That guy narced to the FBI on his cop buddy and identified him as being a Trump cultist, so I donā€™t think he can really be chalked up as a piece of shit. He did the right thing.
