Report: Cuomo Told NY Senate Leader He’ll Leave Office Only If He Get Impeached

He should stay. I’m probably in the minority here but I remember clearly what was done to Al Franken. He was bullied into resigning. We’re still looking at Gym Jordan prancing around the Capital and now Madison Cawthorn wheeling around the accusations against him. NO ONE is screaming for them to resign in the Republican Party. We must never forget tRump while we are waiting for him to submit a DNA sample for another one of his rape allegations. Why are the standards different for Democrats than Republicans? The only thing I ever thought was decent about Republicans is when there is trouble or oppositions they close ranks. Before Dems make a move the first thing they do is put that person through a purity test, than they decide if they want to support them. Franken asked for an investigation where the women would have to answer question under oath but Dems couldn’t wait for that. Then months after Franken resigned they said well, maybe we should have gotten more information before we demanded he resign. Cuomo has asked for an investigation so let that move forward.

Why do Democrats and Republicans not have the same standards?

The Royals are like pandas. You see one on TV and you can’t look away. There is just something about them that grabs your attention. The more techno-driven and mechanistic the world becomes, the more people will be attracted to institutions with long traditions.

No comparison with Franken. Franken was totally railroaded by a known right-wing contributor who had to take everything out of context in order to make it “fit”.

Cuomo has already admitted to everything, and just says he was joking, not that they’re incorrect about a damned thing.

I’m kind of fascinated by British history, but I can tell you, it would be my idea of hell to be within the royal family especially if you hadn’t a clue as to how it all worked. Great sympathy for those wanting out of it.

Because republican voters have no standards.

I don’t get the American fascination with Royal Family goings-on at all. We kicked the bastards out in 1778, and the big failing in my view was that the Canucks didn’t come along for the ride. Their choice.

Heck, the English (under Cromwell) chopped the head off Charles I and kicked the rest of them across the English Channel. The only thing I don’t understand is why they invited them back.

As Oscar Wilde said of the English aristocracy and their fox hunts, “[It’s] the unspeakable in pursuit of the inedible.”

It’s the same thing that makes them interested in Mackenzie Scott getting remarried.

Wealth and/or power draws attention, unless you’re the Mercers or Kochs and live in the shadows.

Politicians are not vestal virgins. Knifing an innocent for the good of the party is neither a good practice nor a good look. Which means that even plausible (probable) accusations need to be tried.

Tangential…but interesting (from Josh an hour ago)

No, No, Please Not That!

Leaving off the Trump Era we are now headlong into the Joe Manchin Tea Leaf Reading Era. But here from Manchin this morning we have yet more evidence that we’re not in Fiscal Policy Kansas anymore.

In addition to his tour of the Sunday shows yesterday, Manchin sat for an interview with Axios/HBO and Mike Allen. In it Manchin says he’s ready to back a big infrastructure bill – in the neighborhood of $2 to $4 trillion. But he’s got a big demands first.

His demand? He wants a higher corporate tax rate and a rollback of most of Trump’s tax cut. From Axios …

Manchin said the infrastructure bill can be big — as much as $4 trillion — as long as it’s paid for with tax increases. He said he’ll start his bargaining by requiring the package be 100% paid for.

He talked up an array of tax increases, including raising the corporate tax rate from the current 21% to 25% “at least,” and repealing “a lot of” the Trump tax cuts for the wealthy.

Democrats have grown very resistant to the era of pay-fors, where any activist government is throttled by the need for new taxes or (more often) budget cuts. But this is where we are: the guy who’s the right flank of the party is demanding big tax increases for the wealthy as his price to get on board with big infrastructure spending.

Who (and/or what) is a Mackenzie Scott?

Please don’t answer that question, because I’m not even interested enough to not give a fuck.
