Report: Biden Reluctant To Pursue Trump Investigations When In Office

Despite the multitude of scandals that erupted throughout President Donald Trump’s time in the Oval Office, President-elect Joe Biden is reportedly leery of investigating his predecessor once he’s sworn in.

Biden reportedly wants to restore legitimacy to a Justice Department

Isn’t that done best by letting the prosecutors do their jobs? Not asking them to do anything or asking them to do nothing.

Oh FFS not this bipartisan ponies bullshit again. Hopefully it’s just a pose and he’ll let his DoJ do as they see fit without any restraints imposed by him. That would be illegal, btw. This shit has to be cleaned up before we can truly move on and fuck those crazy Trumpies. They’re never coming around anyway. They can only be squashed, not won over or placated.

And so once again, Republicans will walk away with zero fucking consequences for their actions.

I think it’s the right message for the public. He knows and I know that it’s not his call whether to investigate Trump.

Biden is doing a disservice to the nation. And no Republicans are not going to cooperate with him anyway.

He dooms us all if his DOJ does not enforce the law.

“Biden reportedly wants to restore legitimacy to a Justice Department that Trump has gleefully weaponized as his own personal law firm under Attorney General Bill Barr.”

The best way to restore legitimacy to the justice department is to let them investigate and prosecute the actions of a so-called president that brought legitimacy of the department into question to begin with. Without interference by Biden - no instructions to investigate, no shutting down of investigations.

And stay out of the way of the State of New York and Manhattan D.A.

Who needs OLC memos when all of us just want to move on?

Literally the worst thing Biden can do is let the Trump regime get away with its crime spree. This would mean there is no accountability. It’ll tell GOPers that future lawlessness won’t ever be punished.

If Biden wants to destroy the Democratic Party and permanently ensure minority rule this is the way to do it.

This is Biden’s brand, and part of what got him elected. As long as he doesn’t stand in the way of investigations and prosecutions and let them show what they show, I think it’s ok. And if it reassures Trump enough to let go of the current cuckoo-bird obstructionism (doubtful, but you know he’d be even worse if he thought Biden was actually going to come after him), good.

Nice to know that I can rob, cheat and steal all I like, so long as I win the presidency at some point, they’ll let me get away with it.

Fuck that. One thing to maybe not delve too deeply into political crimes that happened while in office, but all that tax return stuff was him as a private citizen.

Let alone any personal money deals made in office.

What happened shouldnt just be forgotten

We don’t know what will happen once Biden takes office. I’m alarmed by this NBC piece, but the truth is that it is the right thing to say, that Biden can just say “the law is the law” when his Justice Department, and other entities, go after Trumpster wrongdoing.

And it makes any of Trump’s pardons over the next two months seem even less defensible.

Exactly. And everyone can just stop clutching pearls. He’ll let the DOJ clean house, restore integrity, air the dirty laundry, let the public judge for themselves (and state bar association decide whether to act). Unlike post Iran Contra we don’t have an administration of the same color to sweep things under the rug (the very same Barr). And Biden’s people will at least understand that many Americans were unhappy with No Drama Obama’s reluctance to hold the financial industry (or previous administration) to account.

I love Joey B, but no sir. No sir, no way. I sincerely hope they’re just floating this bullshit to get a read of the reaction because I’m about to go HAM on social media letting my voice be heard that the only way to prevent this kind of corruption in the future is to make an example of it.

This is what everyone feared would happen. So Joe can do his thing and the country back on track and let his DOJ do theirs. And never forget Letitia James waiting in the wings in NY and all the US Attorneys Biden will get to appoint…I can’t wait to see who he will appoint for Attorney General…and if McConnell will even let them be voted in.

We will be able to tell which direction this is going to go by the person he appoints as AG. One thing I want to see, along with jail terms, is forcing them to pay compensation. DeJoy should have to pay for all the sorting equipment he had destroyed, for example.

Firstly, it’s not immediately obvious that Biden will be allowed by Republican Senate to form a government. And without that, what’s to talk about?

Secondly, aside my own worries about Dem establishment wanting to escape reality again, on principle, Biden is right. This should be an independent DOJ decision. He says anything else, and his credibility is compromised.

Thirdly, yes I worry too that the criminals will be allowed to escape justice. That no heads will roll for the horrendous debacle of the last 4 years.

Trumpies are still shouting ‘Lock her up.’ No need to go on a vengeful spree, but many of the acts were absolutely harmful to democracy and fundamental governance. Something simple, like the Hatch Act violations, must be pursued, in part for restoring the notion that there are aspects of government that simply must be out of the reach of partisanship. Then there’s the insider information, as in the early notice to friends of the impact of Covid, allowing them to get their financial positions adjusted.
Then there’s perjury before Congress, ignoring lawful subpoenas and other acts to undermine the rule of law.
We all could go on. There shouldn’t be a preoccupation with going after Trumpies, but they must be held to account for their destabilizing activities and the really naked profiteering.
And don’t forget. Pardons already will out a lot out of reach.
