No one should give him credit for doing the right thing unless there is irrefutable evidence that is what happened. He has never done that in the past and there is no reason to believe that he did it in this case.

I forgot about the WSJ, I thought Ken Vogel or the NYT was where you went to leak information about yourself trying to save the public. Which one was Don McGahn using again?
One of two things happened: The FBI found bupkis and threatened to leak that or the DOJ attorney knew it was 
and threatened to leak that so it was worthless to turn non-sycophantic voters to trump.
So the only thing Bully Barr could do with it was try to prolong the effects of the investigation to knee-cap Biden after sworn in and paint himself as a hero for not interfering in the election.

Barr, already had accomplished what he set out to do. Protect Trump long enough to pack the federal judiciary with Federalist Society members that would reinforce the Unitary Executive and protect Corporate & White Christian privilege for decades to come. Having that oaf as president for another four years would have been counter-productive.

Yep, it may have been Barr’s insurance policy. If anyone accuse him of of politicizing the DOJ to favor Trump (which he did, many times) he can always point to this on his defense.

Wasn’t Comey’s explanation that leaks from others from FBI to GOP congressmen and there to public pretty much forced his hand?
Perhaps some people in “law enforcement” who liked to do selective leaks to hurt Hilary in the end thought they got rather more than they bargained for by helping to elect Trump?

No, he’s just leaking about how noble and rules-following he is because whatever bullshit they were cooking up was laughably thin. If there had been the slightest bit of substance to a Hunter Biden investigation, is there any real question whether that would have been made public months ago?

Given that Trump was raging about how it was “unfair” for Obama’s DoJ to be “spying on him”, I can see why disclosure of this particular abuse of power would have undermined Trump’s narrative.
All year long, whenever people passed on accusations about Hunter Biden, I said “Gosh, it’s a shame Trump doesn’t have any power to investigate these charges.” I mean, obviously he did, and he did. And if they’d found anything interesting, we’d have heard about it long ago.
