Too bad he won’t be able to watch it: it’s the kind of political theater he loves from his guys.
So, I’m sure it’d otherwise meet with his approval.
As long as Democrats don’t die from cirrhosis of the liver before the elections.
Just Don’t Look Up!
Edit to add: Sorry for the repeated references to that movie but I finally saw it over the weekend and found it to be such a brilliant condemnation of the shallowness our culture, the corruption of politicians under the sway of those all important campaign contributions and polling numbers. It’s not so much the squeaky wheel that gets the grease anymore thanks to the demise of contribution limits(Citizens United) but who has the most money/power to control the policies of the reigning POTUS. As my friend in England would say, “It’s fucking brilliant mate!!”
Yep. The J6 committee’s findings aren’t binding of course, but they’re going to set the narrative. It effectively gives the refuseniks a choice between rebutting it in public while still refusing to testify – which kind of puts the lie to their public denials – or letting it stand unrebutted.
I certainly hope that will be the case.
One wonders about the status of “alternative facts” in these hearings.
What I’m really, really looking forward to are hearings where only serious people are asking the questions. There’ll be no sweaty Gym Jordan stooped over badgering the hell out of the witness or giving them a tongue bath while admonishing the Dems on the committee. Hostile witnesses won’t get breaks in between the tough questions where Louie Gohmert tries to humanize them by asking about their new puppy. The good guys and gals will control the narrative completely. Sure, various GOP asshats will rush to the cameras to try spin what everyone just saw. However, it’ll mostly be the preening clowns like Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley and complete dipshits like Jordan and Gohmert. It won’t be a good look for any of them.
Her pulling her arm back, repulsed at Gym Jordan’s “help” during the assault, while yelling, “You did this!” tells you everything you need to know about that day and why they are trying so hard to discredit her.
That is the best we can hope for. Hearings won’t change MAGA minds, but it might remind Democrats that they still have a reason to vote this fall.
April?? Okay, but sooner would be better. Also, given that apparently hundreds of lower-level staffers have been talking and producing documentation, why not a big effort to publicize these facts? All we hear about in the shamestream media is about the ones who abuse the legal process to avoid talking.
Somebody needs to help the Dems learn how to advertise.
I’ve submitted this to the Oxford English Dictionary as a candidate for their “New Words for 2022” list.
(Fingers crossed!)
Shotguns work too
I know the DoJ timeline for indictments is independent of what the Select Committee is doing, but I wonder if this means we shouldn’t expect indictments of some of the major players before April. Or are televised hearings not in anyway a consideration for DoJ? It just seems if the Committee has a certain strategy in mind in terms of who to call and in what order, it could be upended at anytime by DoJ unless there is some degree of coordination and cooperation.
The committee isn’t going to call any witnesses in public who have not already testified or been interviewed in private. Nor is anybody going to get called if they play the “I don’t remember” game in private – they’ll just let the cooperating witnesses tell the refuseniks’ story for them.
And on the off-chance that they do get any useful admissions out of people like Jared and Ivanka in private, you can be certain that’s all they would be questioned about in public. These people are not going to get the opportunity to put on a defense case. Their lawyers are not going to get the opportunity to question their clients. Gym Jordan isn’t going to bust into the hearing room to flail about in his shirtsleeves to perform a bunch of transgressive whataboutism.
The public hearings will be 100% about exposing the truth of what happened and inflicting pain on the perpetrators by revealing those facts.
It’s better in the original German compound word, “schlechtenachrichtenfürbidenismus.”
And all of it done under oath. Lying to Congress isn’t a good look either.
With you on the rest, but wouldn’t at all put it past them to not pull the same shit they did in Impeachment 1.0.
I suppose the Sergeant at Arms can put a stop to that nonsense, if requested, no?
Believe they got called in the last time, so, yes. Maybe this time they’ll actually remove them in handcuffs, would be much more interesting.
"… schlechte… and other non English words. Totally off topic: the classical radio station here is playing Clair de Lune, a beautiful piece, the title of which has always sounded to me as a little insulting to Clair.
