“After a series of bizarre calls and communications over several months, Gregg told us he’d raised the money for [The Freedom Hospital]. Several times he told us it was $2.5 million. He also gave us the figures of $10 million. He also marketed that they needed $25 million,” Kyle Reyes, whose company had worked on marketing initiatives for True the Vote, wrote.

This is supposed to be a happy occasion. Let’s not bicker and argue over who scammed who.

If only there was some government department whose job it was to investigate and jail people like this that break the law. And if only that department was run by someone who actually gave a flying fuck about these things… Can you all help me out here, is there a department like that?

So, the same people who continue to push voter suppression and baseless conspiracy theories about voter fraud also promoted a scam hospital, applied for and received tax exempt status, put out misleading fundraising requests and photo ops, and continue to solicit donations — all before finding out their pipe dream was not feasible?

I guess “awe-inspiring” is one way to describe it. I imagine DOJ might have a more fitting description.

Grifters gotta grift. Are they related to Jim Bakker? Some people NEVER learn and are NEVER redeemed.

Wow, it’s almost as if the single most important syllable in “conservative” is CON.

“…and because he was worried about the potential for local corruption.”

Did that lying fuck say that with a straight face?

I thought for sure after his humiliating mental breakdown, his divorce from Tami, the loss of his empire and money, and his long prison sentence he’d emerge from prison a humbled man.

Nope, right back to the grift.

Those True The Vote assholes sure do run true to form, don’t they?

When Bakker says “God spoke to me and said…,” I just cannot imagine what is going on inside the heads of those who admire him (and give money). And his new wife, a complete air head.

Watch out for statements like below:

“Every penny of your donation will be used to save lives.”

Translated: 'Every penny of your donation will go to saving my very expensive and lavish lifestyle and pay my attorney."

He was concerned that someone might want to get in on his grift.

When Swaggart got caught banging prostitutes and bawled his eyes out apologizing I remember seeing members of his congregation on TV saying: “He’s really sorry and we believe him.”

Fucking dupes.

Some people have to believe in something and history has proven they are willing to be duped.

I particularly liked Elmer Gantry as an example.

I am SHOCKED that two well-known grifters would try to take advantage of wartime chaos to try to steal up to $25M via marketing a fake Freedom Hospital.

HA! Just kidding! I totally knew it.:rofl::rofl:

Beat me to it. I would say that Lewis was prescient, but the truth is that nothing has changed; Gantry was just Swaggart without the TV cameras.

When you talk to God, it’s called prayer.
When God talks to you, it’s called schizophrenia.
