This is incorrect. I don’t have the numbers for a breakdown, but plenty of states hold separate caucuses or primaries for their presidential elections and other offices. Iowa, for instance, held its presidential in February, but won’t pick its candidates for other office (including the Dem chalenger to the odious Joni Ernst) until a June 2 primary election.

If the “establishment” picks and chooses which incumbents they support, what sort of message does that send? The point of having a party is that the party has your back. If you are the incumbent, then they are obligated to support you, so long as you aren’t openly being a Nazi or some such. Otherwise, the whole purpose of having a party breaks down.

So that means that sometimes the party is going to support candidates that you personally don’t like. I’m happy that Newman was able to unseat Lipinski, but I understand why the DCCC had to back him.

Too bad he already qualifies for a federal pension and will get a cushy academic sinecure probably at Catholic DePaul or U of Chicago. If Northwestern is smart It wouldn’t touch its former alumni.

Lipinski is not the kind of Democrat that DCCC should support. But there is a place for them. Unlike the IL-3rd district, there are some areas of the country pro-choice candidates will always lose no matter what. If you have anti-choice Dem that is otherwise good and viable against whatever nut job the Rs run, then it could make sense to support them. I recall the backlash against Sanders when he campaigned for an anti-choice candidate in Nebraska. The republican won, and so Omaha has a mayor who is not only anti-choice, but anti-labor, anti-environment, anti-immigrant, etc.

I doubt anybody was thinking about etymology either when Bernie weaponized it. Proof that others use the phrase without weaponizing it does not excuse Bernie’s weaponization.

Ah the Kool-Aid. It’s just that Rachel’s arguing for the leadership’s side and they’re all in for Biden, when they should be more neutral. The leadership and the talking heads are pro-biden and they tend to ridicule people who suggest things differently from them, so I was a bit wary when you asked the question. I thought Rachel was unbiased, but lately I’m starting to see that the group think’s been getting to her as well.

Nice to see TPM call him a conservative instead of"moderate" like some other outlets. Defeating him is really something that unites progressives and liberals today. I hope Newman could use the advantage of having support from different groups (including the “establishment” like PP and other more progressive organizations) to be a bridge in the new Congress.

Damn those unidentified leaders for leading! How dare they lead when St. Bernard is . . . well, actually, he’s 100% certain to lose, and continuing to campaign against the nominee does nothing but harm to the party. So, lead on, leadership.

Yeah. Sometimes it makes no sense. Somebody explain to me why we hold our mayorial election on an off year. Not on the non-presidential off year, but on a completely off year with only the mayor and city council up. Houston silliness.

Of course, I’m still trying to understand how Bill O’Brien could trade DeAndre Hopkins, arguably the best WR in the league, for an injury plagued RB.

He’s a republican. They wasted a decade and a half defending a republican in a solid blue district. Support republicans if you want, but I’ll keep calling them out. If voting against gay rights and women’s rights is acceptable, why even bother to have a party?

And fuck incumbency rules anyway. Earn your jobs.
