Pompeo Not Sure Who First Said ‘Imminent’ | Talking Points Memo

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo did nothing to clear up confusion over whether there was “specific” intelligence supporting President Trump’s claim that there was an “imminent threat” by top Iranian military official Qasem Soleimani to attack four US embassies, during a Monday night interview on Fox News.

Oh, I see Barr has emerged from under the rocks where he has been hiding (planning the Orange Blob’s defense at the impeachment trial, no doubt):

It should be easy to find out who said it first in public. But to discover who said it first in the frantic search for a plausible explanation would be much more difficult. There is a possibility that it wasn’t the word “imminent” at all, but simply someone who had used too much chapstick and was trying to open his mouth. (“Mmmmnnnnttttt gack gack,”)

“We made sure that everyone who needed to know knew precisely what they needed "

except for the people stationed at the four embassies that should have been on a heightened level of alert. Not that I believe there were four embassies facing imminent attack, but assuming there were, they should have been notified following whatever protocol is normally used.

Well, that certainly puts to rest any suggestions that this wasn’t a careful, well-informed and purposeful action to advance American foreign policy.

Pompeo is a fat lying bastard. A total disgrace to West Point, but then it appears that the Class of 1986 produced several people (including Esper) who did not understand the cadets oath: “A cadet will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do.”

He knows, Donald and he made it up to try to ex post facto justify what they decided to do. Pompeo went on TV and claimed their was an imminent threat. Why? Because without one, this was arguably murder, and Pompeo and Trump could be brought up on murder charges…

New poster. I was reading on antiwar.com about this. The article talked about Bethlehem Doctrine. It’s a Neocon thing that says he has a history so he will do it again and that’s enough to qualify. It went on to say it is only Britain, Israel and the USA that have played this card and nobody’s buying it.

“We made sure that everyone who needed to know knew precisely what they needed different people, needed different levels of information, but we kept this information in a very tight circle.”

Um, “everyone who needed to know” except, of course, for our State Departement officials at our embassies which were about to be imminently attacked.

Remarkably warm and sunny day here in PA this January weekend, so our bike club climbed some hills. Lovely.
At a break, topics steered away from Trump, but I had to be an ass and mention that “again, you just don’t think Trump can go any lower, then he does.” Total agreement from the club, then we immediately changed the subject, and enjoyed the day.

"Pompeo said he was unsure “who used it first, but it reflects what we saw.”

…he continued: “Basically, we’re all just stumbling around leading the world into hell.”

God did.
Any other questions?

They had to restrict access from Congress because secretz, but it was okay to talk about it during a golf game at Mar-your-tax-dollar several days ahead of time. Check.
