Photos: 'No Kings' Day Protests

POOO! Do you think protesting in Dumb F**k Maga County would change some minds?
Protesting together was empowering, and encouraging. It will also discourage the stay-at-homes, I think (hope).

Oh, and BTW, Virginia is purple (GOPer governor), but with all the firings, I think it will be pretty blue in the next election.

I think you have as much chance of convincing people in Dumb Fuck Maga Country to vote Democratic as any of the Dumb Fuck Professional Democrats, which is zero. Like most on the left you refuse to look for common ground. You refuse to even consider that you can’t win if you don’t try. You refuse to try. A lot of states were purple that have gone red. Every wonder why? Dumb Fuck Democrats took their marbles and went home. They decided all tthey had to do was wait for enough minorities to grow up and vote for them. They stopped trying to win city council races and local school board races in Red towns and districts. They stopped doing good work locally. They stopped talking to poor white people. They stopped promoting unions.

Instead they became a media organization running fundraisers to pay for TV ads to elect their chosen people in safe bright blue districts. And like you they run around calling the people they abandoned names. You catch more flies with sugar than you do with vinegar. .

It’s a good thing the Democratic Party operates at more levels than just the national level. I spent Saturday at the Kentucky State Democratic Convention. The people focused on winning local races are there.

I didn’t get to attend the Friday dinner, so I didn’t get to hear the keynote from Ken Martin. He’s (checks notes) the Chair of the DNC. Nice of him to visit Dumb Fuck MAGA Country.

Seriously, the main thing lacking in the Democratic Party right now is active participants. I think that is changing, but we need more people to be visibly active in their communities. (The one thing I heard at both the county convention and state convention was, “Wow! There’s a lot of new people here.”) Chuck Schumer can spend 80 hours a week on TV trying to get people involved, but that won’t move the needle as much as 80 people spending an hour in their neighborhood.

I am not worrying about Chuck Schumer spending time on TV. I am worrying about all the money I send to the party going to help him and others in the national party get elected in their very blue states. I want the national party to participate with local parties, In my state there was an active state party until they all got old and aged out. There was no money to help with local organizing or to train replacement workers or local candidates. Every election they find somebody good to lose in the senate race or in the governor’s race but they are underfunded and unknown before the election. There sure as hell isn’t any money available to help locals win their first race. All the donations go to pay for TV ads for a handful of incumbents. The Democratic party has became little more than a marketing department running a TV campaign. The party went to hell when Howard Dean was kicked out as chair. It hasn’t gotten any better since.

Seems like this is a good place to start working toward a solution. I don’t know which state you live in, but I’m positive someone has their contact information on a website and are desperately looking for anyone help. There’s probably a way to donate to a local party instead of the national party. That’s my plan for the next three years.

In my state the Democratic party is looking for people to contribute money. I get thousands of ActBlue requests every cycle. .

I tried to chart those numbers in Excel but the numbers are so different the Trump column was nearly non-existent at any meaningful scale.

Yeah. It’s not as if anybody bothered to come out for the very first VE Day parade - or VJ Day – or that previous World War.

I’ll be a broken record and share this link again:

This is an organization that researches the state legislature races that are the closest races to win, and would potentially flip state legislatures from R to Dem, or hold a close state legislature in Dem hands. Or in some cases, even in R states, would prevent a super majority, especially where there are Dem governors with veto power.

They are really strategic with where they focus their money so that we can get some results. And they’ve been effective (see: PA state legislature for one example, there are plenty of others). Even in last November’s blowout, they had some successes at the state level where States Project was involved. It works.

If folks are concerned about the national Democratic party not focusing on local races (which is absolutely a valid criticism), then the States Project is where you should consider sending your donations.

It bugs me to hear people* complain “Nobody’s doing this!!” when there are people doing it. You just have to find them and help them out.

*ETA: I don’t mean you, @chris_notwillis! just the general complainers, lol
ETA2: they don’t give the money to the local party, they give directly to the candidates campaigns that they are targeting. They also provide support for the candidate to help them figure out how to win in their districts… tactics and strategy. It’s not just a random money dump.

As I mentioned before, Trump is Thenardier. The crooked innkeeper who traffics children, robs corpses in the sewers and pretends to be nobility at the end.

This is great, but I counted 30 states with no data available.
I hope this will grow to all 50 states.

that’s because they focus on the states where they’ve identified that a handful of candidate races will tip the balance of the legislature. The states that they work in changes each year based on the situation on the ground and what their research tells them.

Of course, the more money that people give to this kind of effort, the more they can expand. But they start with the closest races and work out from there. It’s the wisest way to make the most out of each dollar, and they don’t have an infinite amount. There’s no point in dumping a bunch of money in an R+30 district in whatever state, if you’ve got a bunch of R+1 or R+3 districts you could actually possibly make a dent in. Tip the scales, and then move outward from there.

Humiliation is the most potent weapon we have against Trump and the Rethugs in Congress. None of these prima donna assholes can stand being made fun of.

You’re right. My bad. It was 11th closing. Traffic blocked off on Congress back to 10 as well.
