Pfizer, Last Hope For Pre-Election COVID Vaccine, Hits Out At ‘Politicization’ During Debate | Talking Points Memo

Pfizer’s CEO warned against a COVID-19 vaccine being politicized in a letter to employees obtained by CNBC, after a Tuesday Presidential debate in which President Trump repeated his promise of a pre-election vaccine.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1335755

Bourla wrote in his message that “the world will be safer if we stop talking about the vaccines’ delivery in political terms and focus instead on a rigorous independent scientific evaluation and a robust independent approval process.”

Science. Science will out. Science is the only thing standing between us and at least two to three million dead in the US. People who scream about herd immunity are fools.

Gee, I wonder who’s been politicizing the vaccine?

According to the WaPo and the NYT and the rest of the MSM, both sides…

First of all, the election’s over, now that this ad has dropped:

Nice doggies!

Second, serious question, does anyone think the announcement of a vaccine maker’s application for emergency approval could give Trump a lift? I’m not so sure. People think Trump is a shitty president, and I don’t think an announcement would change the dynamic much. But I’m certainly not sure. There’s a lot of featherheads out there.

Well, given that folks have been registering their dogs to vote, clearly this is aimed at them!

He’s right that the politics should be left out of it and the vaccine should be evaluated on the science. But, he undercuts that message by saying anyone has called for a delay (implying Democrats, as Republicans are calling for an early release). I have not seen a single Democrat call for the vaccine not to be released if it is ready…what they are calling for is the scientific process to be the one used to evaluate the vaccine, and if a political process is used instead then the vaccine should be rejected until science says it is safe.

There is only one side of this pushing for the vaccine to be evaluated in a way different from every other vaccine ever developed…it’s a shame that this is being politicized so that the irregularity of Trump and the Republicans pushing for a vaccine before the election for their benefit isn’t called out as the egregious nonsense that it is.

Your OneWordAnswer™: No.

He’s already poisoned the well so much that nobody will trust anything that the FDA or CDC says is ok until he’s gone.

Mr. Bourla seems a bit testy but he was fine with Trump hawking vaccine releases at his pressers.

That made me a bit teary. All those wonderful dogs lived in the WH.

Pfizer has stood apart from its competitors in its willingness to declare and repeat that its COVID-19 vaccine would gather enough trial data by late October for the company to ask the FDA for emergency approval.

I’m shocked — shocked, I tells ya! — that numerous articles refer to Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla as a “GOP mega-donor.”

Yet this clown is whining about “politicizing” their vaccine trials.

Eh, just as devil’s advocate I’d say that’s obviously the rational view but—featherheads. I think given the numbers of people who don’t think about politics from one year to the next and then base it on some insane frivolous thing—“I just thought the back of Biden’s head made him look too old”—that this could move some votes in a measurable way.

Won’t move the needle. Even when he inevitably announces it, there wouldn’t be near enough supply out in time to make a dent. And since it’s a two-shot regimen 28 days apart and we’re already in October…

I don’t see it helping Trump if positive results were announced on or around Halloween. The results will be preliminary at best at that point and a great many will have already voted. Certainly no one will be able to get the vaccine on Nov 2. Regardless, a vaccine will be the result of work by scientists and doctors, not Trump, who wouldn’t know a vaccine from a hamburger. Most people know that and those who don’t will have already voted for Trumpolini anyway.

Another strike against Trump-he hates dogs. Frankly, even if he were a decent president, that would be a big problem in my books…

Dogs are the very best people. The absolute very best.
If they could vote, they would all vote for Biden, because Trump smells evil to every one of them.
