Now there’s a criticism I can endorse. We have pale imitations of real barbecue, no matter what kind—pork shoulder, brisket, you name it, we haven’t got it. What we do have is like tourist barbecue. I can make creditable barbecue myself, in that it tastes good to me, but I want to go visit my nephew in North Carolina and get the real stuff, where they do all the little things right. Kansas City and Texas are on the someday list. In the meantime I long for it, the way religious people long to go to heaven and be with God.

Some really good news for the Ds on the redistricting front.
The OH Supreme Court followed up their decision on the GOP gerrymander of the state leg districts to confirm that the proposed GOP rigged congressional map is unconstitutional per state law. If the OH Supreme Court enforces the proportionality requirement on the mandatory redraw, the districts will need to be drawn to reflect OH’s voting patterns, which has been 54% GOP, 46% DEM over the past 10 years. That means that the current 12-4 GOP delegation becomes 9-6 or 8-7 GOP, which would be a net gain of +5 to +7 for Team Blue in the GOP’s backyard. That pretty much kills off the effort by the GOP to redistrict their way to the majority and puts the Ds in a position to actually be able to win the House.
In addition, John Katko, the GOP rep from the NY-24 district around Syracuse, has decided to not seek reelection. This is big time news because he keeps winning in a blue district. With him gone, NY will push on with its gerrymander (the Hochulmander as it is affectionately known on Twitter) to push the GOP down to 3 seats in the entire state. If the Omicron wave has somewhat of a sharp drop, I’d say the House would probably Tilt Dem at that point. From a pure districting standpoint, we’re looking at probably 230 House Districts that Biden carried in 2020.
