Pence Won’t Say If He Knew Of Trump’s Deal With Ukraine Described By Diplomats

Vice President Mike Pence refused to say on Sunday whether he knew of the deal between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that top diplomats had described in their testimonies in the House impeachment investigation.

He does not have to say he knew. Other people will say it for him.

Good, reliable people.

Margaret Brennan’s timing was bad. Mommy keep’s Mike’s testicles in a Mason jar on the mantle. She lets him hold them from 7 pm to 7:20 pm every evening. All other times, straight answers simply aren’t available.

Pastor Pence:

'How do you expect me to keep Nancy Pelosi from becoming President Pelosi if you keep demanding i tell you the truth, huh?? Huh??!!

Reminds me a bit of Pompeo’s responses early on in this debacle. Evade and avoid answering the questions but look guilty as hell.

The very fact that he doesn’t dare deny he knew of the deal means that (a) he DID know of it and (b) he thinks his foreknowledge is going to be revealed. He is preemptively “non-denying” precisely because he knows it’s coming.;

Pence is toast.

Pence is hiding behind the term ‘corruption’ which was code for ‘Investigate Biden’ + ‘Investigate the conspiracy theory about UKR involvement in the 2016 election’.

That code has been broken many times, by Trump (Call memo), Sondland (testimony), Taylor (opening statement) and Fiona Hill (testimony).

From Taylor’s statement,

“Indeed, I received a readout of the Pence-Zelenskyy meeting over the phone from Mr. Morrison, during which he told me President Zelenskyy had opened the meeting by asking the VP about security cooperation. The VP did not respond substantively but said that he would talk to President Trump that night. The VP did say that President Trump wanted the Europeans to do more to support Ukraine and that he wanted Ukrainians to do more to fight corruption.

The way Pence is positioning his answer is bad for Trump. He’s trying to imply that he told Trump to release the aid after the call with Zelenskyy (because in this Brennan interview he claims the aid was released afterwards. It was released 10 days later, but only after substantial pressure from others and the spectacle of Bolton’s firing). The answer is also bad for Pence because he’s clearly aware of the call, everything in it and what ‘corruption’ meant.

At around the same time as this meeting, per Morrison, Sondland had a meeting with Zelenskyy aid Yermak in Warsaw (where Pence also was) and told him that

“security assistance money would not come until President Zelenskyy committed to pursue the Burisma investigation (that’s Biden).”

Taylor says that’s the “first time I had heard that security assistance–not just the WH meeting–was conditioned on the investigations.”

If Sondland and Pence were in Warsaw at the same time, what are the chances that Pence didn’t know what Sondland told Yermak? Zero. Pence is lying, but is positioning Trump to take the fall and rally GOP support around him.

Well, Pence does stick to the script, as evasive and truth-free as that may be.

Maybe I’m forgetting, but when did Russia’s invasion of Crimea become part of the big lie? Are they trying to make the interactions more perfect than Trump has said they were? If I remember correctly, there’s nothing about Crimea in the 7/25 phone call rough write-up and I don’t recall hearing that any witness has indicated that was part of the discussions.

"Pence barreled over her with claims that his ‘interaction on this issue’ with Trump and Zelensky focused on Russia’s invasion of Crimea, corruption, and the need for European countries to ‘step up.’”

ETA: Unless “Russia’s invasion of Crimea” is a new way to reference the military aid that was being withheld as part of the shakedown. I just find it odd to now be referring to it that way.

It’d be pretty easy to stand up and say “I did not know” if it were true. But he does have to worry, seeing all the leaking going on.

That’s not going to work for Pence. Trump will and already is throwing Pence under the bus, and Pence is trapped. Trump is louder, brasher, and without a conscience. He also has the love and adulation of the base, whereas Pence has no constituency.

Pence lies about his knowledge of Flynn’s meetings with various foreign nations, and he’s lying now. Good riddance.

He ought to get a subpoena. Let’s see him finally tell the truth or face the consequences.
