Pence Vows ‘Safe Inauguration’ For Swearing-In Of POTUS- And VP-Elect | Talking Points Memo

Following a second impeachment?
Shouldn’t we flip to calling Nixon-- Skinny Trump?

Ivanka might keep Trump in line, though it is doubtful… but Mother would most likely keep Pence in line.

As nearly every poster on TPM has noted for months, if not years, the Republican party is now Trump’s party. And Trump - dense as he is - knows or at least senses this, and will do everything he can to leverage it. The Rs are in for a world of hurt until Trump (a) goes to prison, or (b) croaks.

Is it wrong that I’m smiling?

(Actually, that last bit is snark. We have a lot of work to do to clean up the damage Rs and Trump have done over the past few decades, and I fear a significant portion of our population is beyond deprogramming.)

Many of those people are the cogs that keep the wheels of government turning. I’m thinking of the people who process the documents, who interview applicants for federal services, and the like. The talking heads we see on TV aren’t the ones doing the nitty gritty work that serves the people. Unfortunately, the real, normal people who are carrying out the mission of government in all its details are highly stressed by the current situation.

From the article:

During the passing mention of resigning this week, Trump told people he couldn’t count on Vice President Mike Pence to pardon him like Gerald Ford did Nixon, anyway.

Imagine that! DiJiT sent a lynch mob after Pence last week, and now has doubts about Pence’s loyalty to him. Trump doesn’t want to be Frank Underwood to Pence’s Claire!

It appears that Trump is refusing to do anything resembling his presidential duties, so Pence is having to do some of the necessary tasks to complete the “transition” to the Biden presidency. Pence is a graceless idiot, but at least he recognizes that some things must continue being done to some minimal degree.

This is disgusting. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris do not deserve this kind of disrespect. And Mitch will have all his knives sharpened and ready to plunge into their guts on January 21. Our country is in a sorry state right now. We can rebuild, but it’s going to be a long, hard, uphill slog.

What about Mrs. Peacock and Miss Scarlet? They’re shifty.

I wouldn’t mind it if there was also an admission that the Trump administration’s express policy of going soft on white supremicists, and purposeful ignoring of the threat of domestic terrorism was, like, maybe a mistake? How can this be ignored when Trump administration’s official policy led us to this place?

This is something that needs to be discussed in print and on the airwaves as well.

I won’t ever see it. Comcast carries no Wisconsin news channels here at the western border. All I get is Twin Cities.

I’ll let you know if it surfaces there. Tammy Baldwin has been trying to for two years to push Comcast to give us something, but to no avail.

Big point: Pence has nothing to do with this. He isn’t the boss. He could’ve been if he’d enacted the 25th amendment and removed Trump, but he didn’t and he hasn’t. So this guy can’t vow anything - he has no authority.

Wow there’s a lot to unravel here. (1) Why is Pence in charge? He’s not the president. (2) Better Pence than Trump, but see (1). (3) Pence is also in charge of the COVID taskforce, so… welp. (4) it gives me some reassurance that he plans to be in attendance, but see (3).

We have someone really good in mind whom we believe could win. The current Representative for my county is hopeless. We’ve run top candidates against him to no avail. Hoping redistricting will get us out of his CD, possibly into hers.

Glad to hear it.

Boebert managed to get elected but, last I looked, it’s not an impossible district for a Democrat.

Good luck!

Simpering coward.
Trump had him nearly murdered and he still does Trump’s bidding.
He is a hostage.

I’m fine with not paying the ransom.

Me too. unfortunately, he has paid it.
He could have removed Trump. But now Trump is free to try again to seize power, and to pardon all the insurrectionists to act as an emboldened murderous army going forward.

And that’s news now. A safe inauguration. Jesus Christ!

Exactly. The correct response would be “Who put you in charge? You could have, but you didn’t. Until you do, you are usurping the presidency. Do we need to disqualify you from future office too?”

It tells me Trump is lucid enough to know no one likes him, respects him, or has any loyalty to him. It means he’s fit to stand for trial.
