I want to speak with some degree of nuance here, as this is not intended as a blanket “religion is bad” statement, but I think white American evangelical support for Trump is bone-deep, not transactional. He hurts the right people, he speaks the right code, and they are fucking wired to fall behind authoritarian figures, sheep-like and unthinking. They have trained (regrettably, many of their parents trained) their brains to not think about things like you and I do. That can be untrained, but I surely see no evidence that Pence has been deprogrammed or has interest or awareness of such.
I bet Pompeo is in deep boiling water now for suggesting Taylor for Ambassador to Ukraine.
I get it now…the “swamp” is shorthand for anyone who refuses to lie for the president.

Yes, let’s drain the swamp of all the ethical people, people who put their fellow citizens first and resist the siren call of money. Then we can flood the swamp with our Eastern European mob bosses and friends, ready to help the Trumps and Kushners cash in. It’s not America First, it’s Trump first, last, and always.

I love the whole “we were just fighting corruption” argument from these turds, especially because the aid to Ukraine was dependent upon the DoD certifying that they were making progress (which it did).
Please ask anyone who brings this “corruption” canard up why the DoD’s certification wasn’t enough and why this skeezy end-run was necessary…
