Pelosi Responds To AOC’s Criticism That She’s ‘Singling Out’ Women Of Color Reps

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on Thursday responded to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) calling her out for “the explicit singling out of newly elected women of color.”

I find the above two comments quite odd.

Takes I agree with:

AOC works really hard and sets an example for other congressional members for how to ask meaningful and challenging questions during committee hearings. The fact that she’s absorbing so much heat from party leadership disappoints me.

You may not like what AOC says or how she says it but she’s rarely wrong. She just speaks uncomfortable truths while being young and a WOC. And some people don’t like when young people, or women, or people of color, speak the truth without bowing to establishment power. The attitude that control of power necessitates unquestionable respect needs to end because it perpetuates status quo injustices, and its people like AOC who will slowly get us there. IMO.

“If it can be destroyed by the truth, then it deserves to be destroyed by the truth.”

Nancy should empower rather than intimidate AOC. She represents the future of the party.

That said, I’m still voting straight D in all elections for the rest of my life.

i’m not trying to help anyone…i’m just tired of all this whining from adults…of course, it is about AOC… that she brings up skin colour says all I need to know about her…and her agenda.

It’s sad really, she could do so much, but she is blowing it. We are not at a time or place where we can afford to divide us, this is a fight for literally everything, and she wants to play this nonsense BS game.

AOC twitter darling is letting things get to her freshman head. I like her, she’s terrifically articulate when she speaks and tweets but that doesn’t make one a good congressperson. She may be a twitter queen but more importantly she’s a member of a team in the House and this is no time for foolishness. Perhaps if she spent less time on twitter and more time doing the job.

Dems have never been in lock step like the Rethugs. They are never all going to agree and follow the leader.

“But they didn’t have any following. They’re four people and that’s how many votes they got.”

Isn’t Nancy failing to count the other 91 Dems who voted against it?

Hardly. She’s forcing hard questions into the debate.

It’s about time. We need our Tea Party on the left to purge the “moderates” who are nothing more than Republicans with the label of Democrat.

People will better respect a party that stands for things than a wishy-washy spineless group of people turning like weather vanes to avoid upsetting anyone.

Forcing hard questions into the debate != implying that NP is racist/sexist.

what happens at the family dinner table, stays at the family dinner table…hash out your differences in private…airing you complaints on TWITTER makes you look like your are demanding people choose sides and throw spitballs.

I definitely do not agree with that but then I’m not someone that just goes along. So, at your dinner table you’re discussing that one of the family is a sex pervert and you believe you need to keep it quiet for the sake of the family?

This isn’t a good argument. Nancy took her condescending commentary to Maureen Dowd at the Times… while simultaneously bashing AOC and others for using Twitter. It’s a power play. And a pretty naked one.

You don’t have to imply that someone is racist to note that their criticism is focused on a small group of people, all of whom happen to be POC.

Where is Pelosi’s criticism of the blue-dogs who consistently undermine leadership?

“Pelosi didn’t mention explicitly who she was talking about…”

Isn’t that just the opposite of “singling out”…?

Its a small group of people who decided to form a small group. If i got a group of people in wheelchairs together and then starting tagging buildings, does that mean when the cops start to target the group that they are anti wheelchair?

Its a bullshit argument and she knows it.

You’re exposing your own biases by being ignorant of how bias works.

its quite possible those ‘moderates’ know a thing or two…this is not their first rodeo…implying PELOSI is racist will only cause more ‘moderates’ to turn away from the party…IMO; when a person brings race in to the equation, it is they who are racist
