Pelosi Narrowly Re-Elected As House Speaker After Divisive Vote | Talking Points Memo

WASHINGTON (AP) — Nancy Pelosi was narrowly reelected Sunday as speaker, giving her the reins of Democrats’ slender House majority as President-elect Joe Biden sets a challenging course of producing legislation to tackle the pandemic, revive the economy and address other party priorities.

A good move for the country, not just the Dems. The next few years are going to be more than a bit rocky with recalcitrant GOPers attempting to block and de-legitimize the Biden presidency and the slim Democratic majority in the House and (hopefully) the Senate. We will need someone with Speaker Pelosi’s experience and political savvy leading the House.

I still want there to be younger blood in positions of power, all across the board. Pelosi is very good at what she does, but at some point the gavel needs to be passed. Still, she has the support of her party, so march forward!

How does a one term congresswoman, elected to another two years, get to be the spokesperson for anything? The power of social media.

Peak gerontocracy. The refusal of the boomers to cede control of this nation at any level is a perfect allegory for what’s wrong with our nation as a whole.

…the Republican side of the chamber was nearly empty.

In more ways than one.

I was part of the group that wanted her retire the last time we lost the majority.

I was wayyyy wrong.

That said, we do need a succession plan now and new blood being groomed.

Just my 2 cents. And, it’s worth about that much, given my track record.

Other than Pelosi maintaining the position of Speaker of the House, the rest is superfluous non-news and a waste of the reader’s time, IMHO.

You must mean Donald Trump - a boomer - unlike Nancy Pelosi (b. 1940) or Joe Biden (b. 1942).

Baby boomers - Wikipedia.

The Squad played team ball on this one. It would seem some choice committee appointments are in order.

Silly, of course.

No surprise, I guess, that the five Democrats who did not vote for Pelosi are all “centrists.”

I’m gonna say you don’t know what you’re talking about. Let’s start with "one term congresswoman. . . " She’s been in Congress since 2003 and as you also don’t know supported BHO in his push to make the ACA into law.

an American politician serving as Speaker of the United States House of Representatives since 2019, and previously from 2007 to 2011. Pelosi has served as a U.S. representative from California since 1987. A member of the Democratic Party, she is the only woman in U.S. history to serve as Speaker and, until the inauguration of Kamala Harris as Vice President, is the highest-ranking female elected official in United States history.[1] As House speaker, Pelosi is second in the presidential line of succession, after the vice president.[2]
