House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) criticized the House Judiciary Committee’s handling of its impeachment inquiry during a closed door meeting last week, Politico reported.
Many Dems, despite the leeway granted to leak what was discussed, are nevertheless withholding publicizing that Pelosi was overheard to whisper among a close circle of advisors she was leaning Trump in 2020.
She is out of touch with the other Dems. I am loosing faith in her continued path, Just what is her plan? Letters are not getting it. She is getting as bad as Collins
This argument over whether or not to say the word impeachment deprives the hearings of a lot of their power, legally and otherwise. What good are the hearings if no one pays attention?
Time for Pelosi to transition out, as she’s promised. What part of “Impeachment investigation could lead to greater support for impeachment” doesn’t she understand?
A different view: The election is near, and Pelosi feels Dems will prevail. Pelosi knows for any impeachment effort to be successful she’ll need a lot of testimony and documents, all of which Trump is doggedly refusing to provide. She has no damned faith the courts, especially SCOTUS, will ultimately side with Democrats (and the Constitution) in demanding them. Thus forcing the issue results in rulings that codify a President as King and Emperor so far as the office’s ability to tell the Legislative Branch to piss off, you aren’t getting anything. Then, to further the damage, fricking Trump gets re-elected with all these new powers and effective immunity from any oversight. Resulting in 4 years of damage that makes his first term look like paradise in contrast.
Nancy and Dem Leadership have done zilch to educate the electorate, they have actually actively tried to suppress. I agree with @steviedee111 and have thought for quite a while that Dem Leadership wants tRUmp reelected, thus assuring their power and the cashflow.
My immediate guess is episodes like the shit show with Lewandowski who just used the committee to get free air time for an upcoming (possible) Senate run. Lewandowski wanted to be there, he promised Trump to be a good lap dog so Trump gave his approval.
I, too, want to start the actual investigation hearings, but we’re dealing with a WH that won’t play by the law, the rules, the norms – and you have the Republicans who 100% allow Trump to piss on America with no repercussions. Frustrating as hell we’re forced to put up with this total lawlessness.
If Pelosi is worried about the numbers in the party that support impeachment are too low perhaps letting the process play out without trashing it is the correct course.
Support will build or it will fade.
Whether an Impeachment floor vote happens or not should be based on the findings of an impeachment investigation not the leader suppressing support.
