House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY) sent a letter to President Donald Trump on Thursday calling for flags to be flown at half staff once the number of deaths from the COVID-19 outbreak in the U.S. reaches 100,000.

What are those haters talking about, having more cases is a badge of honor, so having more deaths is a winners trophy. We should have a huge celebration when we reach 100K complete with a parade with tanks and all, just like our Dear Leader likes them.
Mixed feelings on this. Yes, it is what a normal president would do. But Trump only wants to deny the virus (and the numbers) so of course heāll never do it, and Schumer and Pelosi know this. And everyone knows they know, so it doesnāt seem like a gesture of respect, but one of political maneuvering.
Doesnāt Pelosi as Speaker have some authority to lead by example, and maybe lower the flag at the Capitol to half mast?

A small token of respect for tragedies compounded by this President. Somehow, I doubt if heāll take their advice.
Thereās a chorus of tacticians and strategists, from Machiavelli to von Clausewitz and Sun Tzu, applauding enthusiastically from purgatory. Itās a sad and horrifying thing, and itās a shame to make it political, but Trump killed most of those people and he has to go, and this will help.

Whose count do we go by? CDC, Johns Hopkins, Worldometer, etc. Iām of the opinion that weāre way over 100K already when you add in the āundercount.ā Perhaps that flag should be at half staff right now.

Itās a very rare example of Pelosi/Schumer taking Trump by surprise with a populist issue. The symbolismāa fight over the Stars and Stripesāis good. Maybe Dems could develop a series of stunts about the flag and take the issue from the Rs.
