Pelosi And Moderates Hurtling Towards Impeachment

As swing-district House Democrats move decisively towards impeachment, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is looking more open to the prospect that she ever has.

When the followers lead, the leaders will follow.

The mountain has moved? I’ve been highly critical of the Speaker, but this would be an encouraging step if it is true.

Yeppers, just impeach the mother fucker and let the Rethug senate let the fucker off with a less than 2/3’s majority voter to convict.

Then hang that sucker around their necks like the stinking carcass that he is. Time to put a dagger in the heart of the party of treason.

I think we have all been waiting for a self-sacrificing hero who would put country and principles above self to come forward for 3 years now. The whistleblower might finally be the person.

They’re supposed to have a closed caucus today. That will be an interesting meeting. I guess we won’t know what happened until 1.5 seconds after they adjourn.

In the words of one of our great stateswomen, let’s impeach the mother fu€k3r.

Cuz the leader has more ways to lead than simply appear to be “leading”.

First things first.

Speaking on impeachment in 1974, Barbara Jordan told the House our "jurisdiction comes from the abuse or violation of some public trust. It is wrong, I suggest, it is a misreading of the Constitution, for any member here to assert that for a member to vote for an article of impeachment means that that member must be convinced that the President should be removed from office.

"The Constitution doesn’t say that."

The House should conduct an impeachment inquiry. Put Judiciary Republicans on the spot – no “whataboutery”. Is using military aid to a nation struggling against Russia as a political tool for a US election a high crime and misdemeanor – or not? Get them on the record, point by point.

Then the House should vote – every US Representative on the record.

Do. your. jobs.

For some reason this makes me think of the scene from Ghostbusters 2 where the ghost Titanic arrives in New York and Cheech Marin deadpans, “Better late than never…”

Did anyone really think president traitor wouldn’t keep betraying the country in more and more serious ways if Democrats failed to stand up to him? And who knows what we don’t know. House leadership should have treated the Mueller report as the obvious impeachment referral it was and begun an impeachment inquiry as soon as it came out, but better late than never I suppose.

If the comments of TPMers are any guide, the mood of Democrats has now decisively shifted. Formerly there were a lot us—and I include myself in that number—who were either ambivalent about impeachment or flat-out opposed. Now everyone seems to agree that we have no choice. I think Nancy will recognize that as well.

Go, Madam Speaker, go!
I have a lot of faith in her ability as a haruspex; if she thinks it’s time, it’s time.

Just do it.

Pelosi is not Gingrich. She has demonstrated an understanding of the gravity of this step, and her deliberate, methodical approach, while frustrating for many, shows how serious this process is, and that it is not a knee-jerk partisan process to be entered into lightly.

I’m sure Pelosi can manage to share a fork with Susan Collins and catch whatever the hell it is she has. This too shall pass.
