Parties Regroup As Iran Shoves Impeachment To The Back Burner

With the killing of Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani last week, impeachment suddenly no longer dominated the headlines.

I hope to God the voters in my state kick McSally to the curb. She likely will vote to acquit trump and for that she needs to be held to account. I hope it isnā€™t a voice vote. I want to know how each senator votes.

Hold the articles until Rump bombs the culturally significant targets that he threatened. Then add an article for war crimes.

Is there some sort of secret loyalty ceremony that Republican politicians have to go through to swear an undying oath to the head of the Republican Party? This oath would supersede the oath taken by all members of Congress before each term.

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

Are we going to have to dig through the photographic archives to see who crossed their fingers, thus negating their oath of office?

Actually, there is another oath each Senator has to individually swear to for the impeachment trial.

Rule XXV of the Senate Rules in Impeachment Trials: ā€I solemnly swear (or affirm) that in all things appertaining to the trial of ____, now pending, I will do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws, so help me God.ā€

Current rules also state that each Senator has to orally affirm his vote at the end of the trial, although I suppose McConnell could finesse that somehow.

I guess this is a tad more urgent now:

of course heā€™ll ignore Congress and then what?

Trump and the Republicans will soon be using impeachment to wag the dog on his Iran fuck-ups. (ETA: They may have already started to do so.)

At least until a new Article of Impeachment is added for the assassination decision and other possible war crimes. Then heā€™ll make another stupid decision/issue another stupid order.

Circular wagging the dog ā€¦ like chasing their own tails.

ā€œIf subpoenaedā€. Thatā€™s the catch. McConnell will not approve a subpoena, and failing to get 51 votes to override him means Bolton doesnā€™t appear,.

Iā€™ve seen the film of Linz pressing for Clintonā€™s impeachment way back when a number of times. Oā€™Donnell on MSNBC plays it now and again when Linz has issued another ā€œCanā€™t we all get alongā€ plea regarding the moron.

It is my understanding that was the intent.
