Chris Krebs, who led the Department of Homeland Security’s cybersecurity arm and was fired by President Trump last month after publicly debunking the sitting president’s conspiracy theories challenging the legitimacy of the election process, on Sunday warned of dire consequences as a result of Trump and Republican lawmakers’ refusal to acknowledge that President-elect Joe Biden won the election.
Krebs, who’s described himself as a lifelong Republican, was then pressed on why he thinks most Republicans won’t outright acknowledge that Biden is president-elect.
Krebs replied that he’s unsure of the motivations behind Republicans who still won’t come around to publicly acknowledging that Biden on the election, before calling on leaders in the national security community and in the Republican Party to “stand up to accept the results and move forward.”
Don’t know if folks have been following this little drama, but Steve Vladek puts us at ease.
Thread.
The concern trolls and regular nasty trolls are out today convinced that the dominoes are going to fall and generate a “constitutionally allowable” soft coup that will maintain Trump in the presidency. What does that say about people that expect our constitution to thwart democracy? What does that say about a constitution that gives those people that idea to begin with? I will always put my faith in great men and women of good will who champion democracy.
We are on dangerous ground and will continue to be even after Biden is inaugurated
And of course you didn’t realize this was the kind of man Trumpy was when you agreed to serve.
Exactly. You are not dumb, please don’t treat all the public that way. The Republican Party continues to treat the Republican base as Sisyphus, with a continuous set of lies, falsehoods, and policies and votes in Congress that hurt these individuals between elections, after which point in time the cycle starts once again. That’s probably a main reason why the Republican Party wants to degrade the educational system in the country.
“We cannot allow this to continue, certainly not past January 20th, certainly not for the next four years,” Krebs said. “Any sort of lost cause movement would be just horribly destructive to democracy.”
Riiiight. Change democracy to Republicanism and you have the truth right there. I am sick of all this self righteous fear of what DJT’s tantrums are doing to the country. The country will recover and be better for it. The GOP, on the other hand, will not. Spare me the fake tears for our country, Republicans.
Greg Sargent -Republicans use the lie to promote themselves.
There's a huge flaw in media treatment of Trump's trip to Georgia: It treats his demand that Republicans nullify the election as a "quandary" for them. But they embraced his claims throughout. The're not the victims of this mess. They helped create it:https://t.co/q0adbiqDBspic.twitter.com/uMHRSXupjH
"Georgia voters should have confidence in the election and they need to get out for the January 5th Senate runoff,” Krebs said.
That comment is not aimed at Democrats and Independents.
Krebs knows that helping McConnell keep GOP control of the Senate only rewards Trump’s enablers, and pretending to be “unsure of the motivations behind Republicans” is risible.
I commend his professionalism in the runup to this election – and I welcome any and all allies in the War On Insanity – but continuing his lifelong loyalty to the Republican Party is not the sign of someone who’s seen the light.
Krebs seems like such a decent and intelligent guy that I can’t figure out what he was doing in that administration to start with. He’s a profound disappointment from that standpoint.
