Politics has become so tribal. When political affiliation becomes part of someone’s personal identity, instead of a philosophical position, it is nearly impossible to break them free. Their friends are all Rs, their co-workers are all Rs, their fellow church members are all Rs, all their news comes from Fox and OANN. You can’t educate them and you can’t persuade them. They have to be deprogrammed.
That is what we are up against. That is why it has taken two whole new generational cohorts (Gen Z and Millenials), and the decline of Boomers (sadly my cohort), to break us out of this Republican lock-down in Texas. The R’s have used the tools of power to lock in their power for over a generation. Pray that this election ends it for good!
Texis is certainly changing but I expect Biden to lose TX by 2 to 3 points. I’d love to be wrong, but I’m just not optimistic. It’s Texas FFS
But I think comments like this are setting the stage for an actual theft if by some miricle Biden’s wins Texas in a nail-bitter. The TX legislature will declare fraud and pass a bill directing all electoral votes to Trump which of course Abbott will champion and quickly sign. The Florida legislature in 2000 was in the process of doing exactly this when Bush v. Gore was decided.
I could see the same in SC. Less likely in GA where the governor and legislature might fear a backlash.
Definitely not a bout of conscience on Abbott’s part. He was trying to throw a bone to the voting rights activists to prevent a lawsuit. He calculated that an extra week of early voting would not amount to much, based on past history. And based on past history, his calculation was the correct one. However, these are times when history seems to go out the window with regularity. The extra week of early voting has probably put Biden over the top, along with who knows how many down-ballot Democrats.
Sadly, I don’t think MJ is going to pull this one off. Beto could have beaten Cornyn hands-down, if he hadn’t been blinded by his own brilliance and the temptation of a presidential run. But he has done amazing work with Powered by People, and has been a major contributor to this cycle’s GOTV effort.
Four more days of waiting. Only four more…(seems like forever!).
That sounds a lot like the peasants have taken up torches and pitchforks. That is why I think the election on Tuesday is going to be a blow out for Biden. A whole lot of people have had it with Trump and the Republicans.
This is the bottom line—why it’s hard for me to see a peaceful future for the society going forward, especially with the pressure that’s being put on by the effects of climate change. Violent revolutions happen when a bunch of people feel cornered and become incapable of compromise.
Yeah the Trumpers who are in militias are going to organize a revolution.
Those people couldn’t organize a two car funeral. They will be mad and maybe act out and then they will be arrested. If they get bad enough they’ll be shot by the cops.
Way off topic: It seems that Don Jr. is truly freaking out about their post election fate. My question is: How much coke is he doing? He legitimately looks tweaked out of his gourd any time he appears on tv, Laura Ingraham being the latest example.
