For the first time, a federal judge looked at Trump’s invocation of the Alien Enemies Act to remove Venezuelans, and found a way to (kind of, sort of) agree. Judge Stephanie Lou Haines for the Western District of Pennsylvania ruled both that President Trump had complied with the Alien Enemies Act when he invoked it…
If you live in the United States and observe the Venezuelan government conducting a predatory incursion in your area, please let us know by emailing talk@talkingpointsmemo.com.
I LOL’ed
Roberts really bringing Nikki Haley/Susan Collins energy to the debate
Nicole Lafond is a man now?
Please don’t make me look at Goebbels Jr. His eyes are so dead they’re dragging me to the underworld.
Roberts has no energy to bring, he is a useless hulk of a human. He knows full well what he unleashed when he gave essentially limitless immunity to sitting presidents. All of this, the entire lawless onslaught by tRump, DOGE, ICE and all the others can be traced back to that Constitution ripping decision. tRump rode that decision to reelection and the country will never recover from it. For him to point fingers at a lack of civics training for young people is beyond self serving and way past nauseating.
When you stare into the Abyss, Stephen Miller stares back
Also, I’m still waiting for us to invade Venezuela. I mean, if they’re invading us, shouldn’t we strike back? But no, we’re just going to kidnap a Turkish op-ed writer off the street in broad daylight. Not even the Venezuelan gang has done THAT.
I hope he lives long enough to face the judgement of history.
Not that you know. They are really sneaky! We didn’t even know we were being invaded by them until the smartest President of all time noticed! His Uncle was a Professor at MIT, you know!
Is there a CITGO station selling PDVSA tankers (like “Hess trucks”) to kids?
[Trump] needs to give people he designates as “alien enemies” three weeks notice
The clock starts three weeks before the notice is actually facilitated, typed up and put in the mail for monthly delivery.
Sneaky venezuelan government has made no demands, has avoided taking out members of executive, legislative or judicial branches or engaging with soldiers. Instead seizing a series of run-down apartment complexes. I guess when the slums are occupied by a hostile force the nation falls.
Oh, wait.
…designated Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan gang with some operations in the U.S., a terrorist organization and accused it of being in thrall to Caracas.
If this is “true” shouldn’t there be a declaration of war coming from Congress???
Ted Cruz is “concerned” about the Quatari plane. I guess he’s just channeling his inner Susan Collins. Now let’s see him actually do something about it.
John Roberts: On the “endangered” rule of law front: “I think you’re talking about strengthening the rule of law. One area where it is most endangered is young people,” he said, later adding, “We are developing a situation where a whole group of young people is growing up having no real sense about how our system of justice works.”
LOLOL
Um, hey, Chief Justice, have you not noticed that YOUR COURT has been pretty much actively destroying our system of justice? Or are you saying they don’t realize they should be bribing justices???
Spoiler alert - his concern will be as effective as Susan Collins’ concern has been for decades. Did Rafael (as we’re only allowed to use names assigned at birth now) furrow his brow, too?
“we need to stop and reflect every now and then how rare that is”
But the solution is not the conservative method of forcing compliance with a government that not only can’t fit in a bathtub but also uses methodical lawlessness, personal threats and general fear to force adherence to its rule of its law.
Rather, the solution is law that reflects the desire of the majority. For the majority, then, compliance isn’t an issue… like privacy, like birth control, like responsible gun use, like fair taxes, like love and family.
I’ve been to Venezuela, many years ago. Lovely country, great tourist spots, friendly people, lots of oil reserves. We should invade it and kick Maduro out. The coastline isn’t perfect for white sand beaches and Trump resorts, but he’ll figure something out.
But do they have a wall? : - )
