In sharp contrast with comments made earlier by President Trump, former President Barack Obama on Friday said the killing of George Floyd at the hands of a white police officer in Minneapolis “shouldn’t be normal in 2020 America.”
Let me guess: the Right will shortly be along to drown Obama’s message out with a lot of bad-faith pearl-clutching about the sheer lack of class and decorum when a former President criticises the current office-holder. We know that Donnie’s going to go quietly and keep his thoughts to himself when he is finally evicted, right?
We’ve got a pro here. Not in the sense of a “profession” but in the sense of someone who resists the over-the-top shouting there is too much of in 2020.
Obama is projecting:
He is projecting President Biden and his stance on future situations which call for adults, not children.
Normal was redefined in 2013 when Chief Justice and erudite sociologist John Roberts decreed that “Our country has changed, and while any racial discrimination in votinghomicide by LEO is too much, Congress must ensure that the legislation it passes to remedy that problem speaks to current conditions.”
The comparison between Biden’s “ain’t black” comment and Trump’s echoing of the racist calls of the 60s really should make it clear what Biden was trying to say, that Trump and Republicans really don’t care about black people, and are just fine with them suffering and dying. It’s totally clear they are just fine with continuing the racist control of the nation by whites, and it’s way past time for it to stop.
Has Trump demanded that Twitter also ban Obama’s comments, to balance out its ban of his own comments? Never mind that Obama didn’t post these remarks on Twitter like the reckless coward troll that Trump is, or that the two sets of remarks have absolutely nothing in common other than that they address this situation. It’s just…UNCONSTITUTIONAL!
To have Trump’s so-called “presidency” fall between Obama’s and (hopefully - I’m not assuming anything) Biden’s presidencies will only amplify what a truly awful and despicable man Trump is, and how close to the edge our democracy can be when taken for granted or not given the mindfulness it requires.
