Last night, we watched John Oliver, hubby and I. I mentioned something about that Carlson interview to him a while back, but hubby isn’t all that interested in politics. Most of his news comes from Last Week Tonight and cursory attention when he’s commuting.
But this week, John Oliver played the Carlson interview piece with Gaetz. First time I’d seen it. Hubby absolutely laughed out loud at Carlson’s denial. He doesn’t do that very often…

I had some right winger this morning insist we have to boycott CBS in its entirety because 60 Minutes broadcast a story he insisted was full of lies. He’s a major NFL fan for the Chicago Bears. I haven’t asked him yet what he intends to do during football season.
60 minutes used to be the go to news hour back in the '70’s…
They actually lied in their story about Ron Desantis in Florida. I will never watch a CBS program ever again in my life…those of you who are with me on this please let’s get this boycott going…you should not be able to lie directly to the American public on major broadcast tv…CNN, MSNBC and other cable channels are irrelevant compared to CBS…this should NEVER be able to happen…
On the other hand, one of his friends responded, what about the 30,000 lies your President told over the last four years. I can bet that guy will be unfriended in short order.
Someone else suggested that the media need to be put on notice and the SC should demand factual news or lose their FCC license. Seems odd to me that someone on the Right is insisting on a Fairness Doctrine. The unintended consequences are delicious.

Well, Desantis even has a couple of Democrats calling the story bullshit:
Some Democrats came to DeSantis’s defense after the report. Florida Division of Emergency Management head Jared Moskowitz, a Democrat, tweeted Sunday that the governor’s office did not suggest Publix as a vaccine distribution site.
“Publix was recommended by [Florida Division of Emergency Management] and [Florida Department of Health] as the other pharmacies were not ready to start. Period! Full Stop! No one from the Governors office suggested Publix. It’s just absolute malarkey,” Moskowitz said in a tweet.

Speaking of Trump… his response on falling 300 slots on the Forbes list and having a worth of only 2.4 billion after leaving office:

I would not say so in general. Lots of innocent folk have requested pardons, clemency, commutations, and such.
Gaetz is not the general case, of course.

Mrs. Strad put on her English Professor hat to point out that underage women is an oxymoron, and we have a perfectly good word in English for that part of society: girls.
Not that the demarcation from girl to woman is any clearer than it is from boy to man. There is plenty of grey area, and I know some 60 year old males to whom boy (sensu stricto, i.e., immature male) definitely applies. But in this case, a 17 year-old female is (legally speaking) a girl.
Nor is this to say that some women don’t use their sexuality for personal gain and begin the practice while girls.
