NY Judge Holds Trump In Contempt For Attacking Witnesses, Threatens Jail - TPM – Talking Points Memo

Many are of that opinion. But I tend towards Josh Marshal’s take that it doesn’t square with his “brand” of “dominance” to have his sorry ass thrown in jail. Yes he likes to bleat about how he is always the victim of evil Democrats, blah blah blah, but his central animating motive is always to “dominate” his perceived “enemies” and “allies” alike.

IANAL but I believe this was covered yesterday in the threads here. Criminal contempt is a separate issue not related to the gag order, and he would be entitled to another jury trial for that. Someone correct me if that’s wrong.

Can bail revocation be appealed?

If I’ve learned anything following these procedures it is trump’s attorneys will try to appeal death.

(insert Monty Python parrot sketch here)

Yup, and explained to those who will criticize the amount that NY state law confines him to $1000 per violation. Hard to know if this will work but I do believe he will tip-toe right up to the line.

Next stop, Jail.

I agree that this tracks with his “brand” but he’s been deteriorating, and I just can’t help wonder if there isn’t something to the opposite.

I’m yet again cursed with being able to see both sides of an argument. Damn you, (public) high school debate for teaching me critical thinking skills!

He’ll grift it from the cult in just a few minutes. He needs to spend a night or two in the Graybar Hotel.

I don’t think so. What’s hurting him the most right now is being seen as something other than the all-powerful leader persona he likes to project, having to show up at court and keep his mouth shut during the trial. A perp walk in handcuffs and being forced to spend even one night in jail would dial that up to 11.

Also there are no makeup artists and hair stylists in jail. Think about what he’d look like walking out of jail the next morning. Or worse, spending several days there. Nah, I don’t think he wants this.

Trump has been daring his various judges to do just that. He envisions hoards of MAGATS swarming around the courthouse crying out about the injustice, the persecution, the witch hunt, etc. He thinks this will force his release and make his felonies go poof! In reality, there will more likely be a few true believers wandering around with signs, just like there are now.

image I think the protestor is the guy in the plaid flannel shirt? Maybe the woman in the green sweater?

Shorter Melanie: Do eet, judge!

All this is just BS and Kabuki theater unless the Judge actually locks him up. My vote would be for 3 days. This would give Diaper Don a taste of confinement, and would probably stir up enough violent protests by his moronic followers that might influence some “fence sitters” to reconsider whether to vote for the Orange Asshole (and draft dodger) or for our Republic to remain a democracy.

I’ll believe it when I see it. IMO he should have skipped the piddly shit fines and gone directly to incarceration. If the damn laws would’ve even allowed it. And any jail time should be on the weekends. Let the trial not be interrupted and let his executive time and possible rallies get fucked.

Perhaps the coachroaches that you can’t see in the picture?

In my freshman year of college, an anthropology prof assigned an essay requiring us to use a set of facts (ones we looked up to deal with the topic at hand) to prove our thesis. Then we had to use the same set of facts to prove the opposite. I didn’t think it could be done, but it could. That was an awakening!

That’s exactly the bottom line.

Trump took at oath to the Constitution, then violated it.

Trump is ineligible for any public office.

Yes. But not sure if Judges Chutkan and McAfee will pull that trigger. I tend to be skeptical they would, though he absolutely violated his pre-trial release agreements by being ruled in contempt.

Good start. Trump grows smaller and smaller. I might consider the next step having him stand in the corner of the courtroom, since that would be punishment consistent with his maturity level. It would also be an accurate picture for the ages. Followed by a jail cell.

donald trump has more than esrned incarceration until the conclusion of this trial be it weeks or months.

AND TAKE HIS DAMN PHONE AWAY WHILE YER AT IT

It’ equivalent to telling a toddler to “go stand in the corner and face the wall”!!

No, it does not. Glenn Kirschner is totally wrong about this and needs to STFU about it. trump is being held in contempt under NY Judiciary Law § 751. The Class E felony Kirshner can’t shut up about is not that statute. Trump is not charged with contempt under NY Penal Code § 215.51, which is not applicable to his shitposting violations of the gag order and for which he would be entitled to a jury trial in any event.

Glenn Kirschner is wrong. Everybody stop repeating him.

ETA: trump will also not lose his right to vote over this contempt finding.

I still think trump is a toddler in a 77 year old grossly fat body
He has earned a cell
Threats will not work on him
