O’Brien described the NSC staff size as “bloated” to Fox News’ Laura Ingraham and that when he came to the NSC he had planned to “drastically downsize it.”
The NSC, doing its part to balance that $1 trillion deficit.
O’Brien added that the NSC had “ballooned up” to 236 policy professionals in the Obama administration compared to about 100 during the Bush administration, but that in “another week or two, I think we’ll have met our goal.”
The division of the NSC which monitored and responded to pandemics was eliminated a while back. The novel coronavirus and influenza are wreaking havoc. Trump believes China is doing a great job. Meanwhile local health authorities are trying to cope with both coronavirus and influenza. Hollowing out important agencies which keep us safe is a feature not a bug.
This country is going to spend some time in the barrel for its Trump time. It’s not just that he’s gutted State, or now the NSC, but agencies set up to protect everybody like the EPA and CDC.
Just doing what Republicans do: Proving government doesn’t work by making sure it can’t work. Reduce staff so they are not able to do the assigned job. See: IRS, ATF, etc, etc., etc.
