Whenever I think of Elon Musk, I visualize a poop emoji.

Is it possible that Elon Musk is a vicious racist, homophobe, and anti-Semite who also hates unions and democracy? What a low life piece of shit this guy who I once admired has become. An ego like Trump or Putin or Murdoch. Scum. Human filth. Feces!

Meanwhile, “voice of america”, an actual us state sponsored media Corp, does not have this label. More evidence that Elon is not a friend of the United States or its people.

The security concerns of using Twitter are no different than using Tiktok (china) or Telegram (russia).

Musk coming out as a narcissistic authoritarian loving prick surprised me as much as “America’s dad” (Cosby) turning out to be a serial rapist. All the money in the world can’t wipe that poop emoji off you.

When Republicans are in charge, should Fox or OAN be Labeled “State Media”?

I couldn’t abide Twitter even before the current implosion because of its dumb format, but doesn’t it bear asking at some point if there’s a better alternative than continuing to play in Elon’s sandbox instead of complaining that it’s ever worse?

“Unacceptable” doesn’t mean “bad”, it means “can’t be accepted”. NPR should simply leave Twitter.

It is if the “state” is corporate America.

Absolutely agree. Simply leave the platform. I know there’s nothing out there that’s really equivalent yet, but even so just don’t support it by using it.

Mastodon is quite good. NPR should have the resources to start their own server and simply move there. 10 million+ users is still rather small compared to Twitter, but the sanity/size ratio is very favorable. I find it to be free from bots and nazis.

It isn’t—and it’s not.

Nothing that you wrote here is even remotely true.

Amazing what happens when 90% of your users are not bots speaking with Russian accents.

I know of a few high profile posters who’ve moved to mastodon, and it seems to be working for them. The difficulty is for those who actually need the twitter engagement to fund their professional activities. The tipping point hasn’t been reached yet where there’s more engagement on mastodon than on the twatters.

NPR is majority reader-funded. They have to be where the majority of readers are. But no reason why they can’t start up a mastodon account in parallel, aside from the cost of duplicated effort.

Why on earth does any legitimate organization continue to stay on Twitter?

Huh, I visualize actual shit.

Many have (somehow) set up accounts that post to twitter, Mastodon and others simultaneously with one click.

So you would be okay with RT, IRNA, BBC, Xinhua, CBC, Tass, NHK getting the Elon Musk seal of “State Affiliated Media”. Just not NPR?

Or there should be no labels whatsoever?
