Yea I wonder what all these insurrectionists think now that they are in court, without lawyers from Trump, without a conviction for Trump, doing time while Trump is out playing golf. Plenty of remorse from his supporters I’ll bet.
He may not be feeling remorse but he’s feeling the heat. Did you ever do something stupid at work and spend the next week wondering if you’ll be fired? Neither have I. You go on and act normal but you feel like you could be in real trouble. Eventually it’s sorted or it passes. I think Trump is feeling that way times ten, and it’s not going away.
I for one wouldn’t mind if they were sentenced to community service, as long as they were convicted of felonies, have their firearms take away, and are kicked off the voter rolls.
Well for most of them sure, but for those belonging to such groups like the Proud Boys, they have to do time. Those idiots that follow Qannon, they haven’t a clue. They could use a civics course and some form of decompression. They need education.
Let the Republicans worry about him, now that he’s fully their albatross. We have a pandemic to crush, an economy to revive, civil rights to restore, voting rights to regain, healthcare to expand, an international reputation to burnish… shall I continue?
My personal resolution is to never speak of him again. The last person who tried to ask what I thought of him was told: “He’s a non-entity, and I will not invade my brain space with even the smallest thought of him. Next topic.”
Yup, he is now McConnell’s problem.
Trump sure as hell didn’t write that statement.
Remember, it has only been one month since the insurrection, and what we now know about it shows an absolute travesty created by Trump’s words over months and directed at the overthrow of a legal election result. It’s not going to get any better than that, as more details come out we’ll learn that things were even more awful than we thought. There will be investigations, trials, and public testimony by officials about how the system failed and allowed this to happen. All of that is going to make Trump look worse, not better, and turn more people away from him.
McConnell tried to have it both ways, by claiming that the House proved its case, Trump is awful, but they couldn’t convict. He’s trying to keep the Trump minions voting for Republicans by pretending to support him by letting him off while trying to make everyone else think that Republicans are breaking away from Trump. We know that’s not true, it’s going to be more and more clear that it’s not true, and that has to be hung around every single Republican who voted to let Trump get away with inciting a riot that killed people and almost assassinated Pence and members of Congress.
The key thing is not to blame any Democrats for what happened…the result of this case is solely the responsibility of the Republicans who refused to rule on the merits of the evidence. And, the work now starts to make sure Republicans are held accountable…if they win back control of either house of Congress (or both), then they will think they can get away with their bad behavior, and will plan to over turn the election result in 2024 no matter what. Trump isn’t the cause, he’s the symptom, and we need to make it clear that Republicans have as their goal the undoing of our nation and replacement with a system where they are the dictators.

Still processing this. The result was as we expected. But there were surprises and odd messaging to boot. Not going to sit here and gnash my teeth. Just give it a bit of time to see what shakes out of this mess.
What some of them believe or swallow is beyond the tabloids at the grocery store check out. Which with COVID they aren’t there anymore. When’s the last time we heard about what David Pecker was doing?

According to the Constitution Article 1, Section 3 Clause 6 and 7
Indictments can come after a POTUS is out of office. This is what the Constitution says (I am including more for context):
Article I, Section 3, Clauses 6 and 7:
" The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two-thirds of the Members present. Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States; but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law.

Clearly the language means indictment and the rest can happen after removal from office. But the only punishment of impeachment is removal and banning from holding any office.

(1) First Metaphor is dealing with Trump:
Newspapers in the old print days had the weather page in a section of the back pages. For the most part they were there to keep people abreast of normal weather and that was it. Only if there was some drastically rare event did that weather situation reach the raised type of the Front Page

The GOP is a dangerous organization intent on authoritarian dictatorship and removal of personal freedoms consistent with those of a Republic committed to democratic rule. They must be watched and we can never let our guard down w/r/t the GOP’s danger, unscrupulousness, treachery, untrustworthiness. This does not mean that we forsake our commitment to our own values.

He has cheated on each of his wives.
He has cheated his contractors and refused to pay them.
He has cheated his lawyers and refused to pay them.

And now, because he wasn’t convicted by TWO-THIRDS of the Senate, he sees it as vindication?
He lost the majority, 57-43.
Seven members of his own party declared he was guilty; this is bipartisan.
He claims he won, but in the eyes of anyone paying attention, he is a loser pariah.
Historians will resolutely condemn him.
It was the Senate Republicans who just cheated the Constitution.
They did not meet the obligation of their oaths to be impartial jurors.
Party over Country.
Only a liar can claim to have weighed all the evidence and found Trump not guilty.
The insurrection was a terrible stain, but this!!!
This act of moral cowardice is the greatest stain on our democracy!
