Sparing not a single word to condemn the violence he provoked on Jan. 6, former President Trump celebrated the Senate’s acquittal of him Saturday in a statement that called the impeachment proceedings “yet another phase of the greatest witch hunt in the history of our Country.”
A hearty “fuck you” to Mr. Former and Twice-Impeached President. I’m really pulling for a massive heart attack at this point…seems to be our only hope. Failing that, Go Letitia James and Cy Vance, Jr.! Lock HIM up.
I thought the outcome was preordained, so I steeled myself for it, but it still enrages me that this transparently phony, evil fraud has been able to do so much damage to this country. I don’t know if I am angrier at 45 or the all the people who came to believe he was the greatest thing since sliced (pasty white) bread…
Trump just issued a statement through his office.
“It is a sad commentary on our times that one political party in America is given a free pass to denigrate the rule of law, defame law enforcement, cheer mobs, excuse rioters, and transform justice into a tool of political vengeance, and persecute, blacklist, cancel and suppress all people and viewpoints with whom or which they disagree.”
Trump’s statement should send a chill down your spine. Trump tried to foment a coup before, during, and after the January 6 protests. He came far closer to succeeding than we are willing to admit - what would have happened if the mob had captured Pelosi and Pence? setting aside the mob violence, what if Trump had implemented his aborted plan to install lackeys in charge of the military and the CIA and then declare martial law. Saying that couldn’t happen because it would not be constitutional misses the point - democracies die because authoritarian leaders use force to commit unconstitutional acts. As for what actually did happen: a crowd riled up by a demagogue leader marches on the nearby seat of government where they are confronted by a cordon of police and after a violent confrontation their attempted coup fails. That is what happened in Munich in 1923. It may be hyperbole to compare Trump to Hitler circa 1933 as he became more virulently anti-Semitic, but it is not hyperbole to compare him as a political leader to Hitler 1923. The Weimer Republic recognized the threat Hitler could pose and they tried to hold him accountable by charging him with treason and sending him to prison, but ultimately even that failed. Republican senators can’t even try to hold him accountable (notwithstanding Mitch McConnell’s fatuous words). Already the reporting is that Graham is planning to meet with Trump soon to “discuss the GOP’s future.” That future is not compatible with American constitutional democracy. I think the ranks of “never Trumpers” grew by several million after January 6th, now my hope is that they remember what happened here for the next 2 years and vote out the Trump supporting quislings.
I am perplexed daily, on trying to understand the collective psyche of his frothing followers and the sheep who bleat after him. Racist, fascist, hypocritical, filled with hatred, intellectually incurious, willfully ignorant . . .
I think I see why T**** is the bankruptcy King.
Total Votes
Biden 81,283,098
T**** 74,222,958
So doesn’t the person with the larger number win, and the person who received the most votes becomes POTUS?
