NIH Chief Pleads For Public To Ditch ‘Conspiracy Theories’ On Approved Vaccines | Talking Points Memo

Dr. Francis Collins, the director of the National Institutes of Health, on Sunday urged the public to put skepticism surrounding approved COVID-19 vaccines aside as polls have shown that a significant amount of Americans are hesitant about getting vaccinated, even as the country nears 300,000 deaths from the pandemic.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1349056

“There have been few if any vaccines that have ever been subjected to this level of scrutiny.“

If only that were true. Can vaccinated people still spread covid? For how long do the two doses confer immunity? How severe an allergy to other things does it take to indicate someone should not take the vaccine?

We may have baseline safety and effectiveness data, but I think Collins is overselling what we know.

Just a little food for thought:

" An inactivated (killed) polio vaccine (IPV) developed by Dr. Jonas Salk and first used in 1955, and. A live attenuated (weakened) oral polio vaccine (OPV) developed by Dr. Albert Sabin and first used in 1961."

Men were celebrated for their work as and example, how far we have fallen.

I’ve heard that the vaccine can cause herpes and painful foot sores. And if you get the one with the tracking chip the chip can get lodged in your small wrist bones and prevent you from driving. Therefore, I highly recommend everyone take a wait and see approach, at least until after I get my second dose.

Sabin and Salk deserve our praise, but let’s not forget that bad batches made it into public distribution, and it resulted in people getting polio. If I recall correctly that information was hushed up at the time.

If you took away the deplorebels conspiracy theories, what would they have to live for?

I have too many “friends” that think the vaccine will alter their DNA (couldn’t make it any worse) or think it was rushed or don’t believe COVID is any worse than a bad cold. One even got it a month back, freaked out thinking they were going to die and then this weekend was at a bar in Indiana praising them being open; unlike Michigan. Fools. All of them, fools!

I feel a bit bad about it, but let them deny and obfuscate all they want. Puts my at risk Mrs. and myself further up the line for getting the shots.

All the air heads that don’t wear masks and think the virus is a hoax will not be getting the vaccine so how many million are lost that way. I’ve read a few accounts of people on deathbeds with Covid and deny that is what they have. They will not be convinced.

Look, I’m all fine if they don’t want the vaccine. More for me. I’m taking it when it’s offered me, because I want to go back to doing what I do best - consulting, being at the farm, being able to frequent local establishments.

I’ve discovered that in the three months I’ve worked at Target, I couldn’t pick my co-workers out of a line-up. In the event I’ve been in break room and masks were off, because meals, I’ve been shocked to see what some of them look like without face coverings.

We’re never getting rid of conspiracy theories and that’s because of the few that have not been conspiracies, but very real. Someone defended POC not being eager to do these vaccines due to the Tuskegee stuff that happened early 20th century. That wasn’t a theory - it was very real.

It’s why I support, as things get more active with distribution, that celebrities and politicians take their doses on line or on air for the masses to view. I mentioned earlier that there was reluctance to take the polio vaccine until Elvis publicly took his dose. Many stepped in line shortly after.

And as infections diminish and businesses re-open, more will step in line. And those that don’t, get what they get.

I’m just not going to lose any sleep over the conspiracy theories and those that believe in them with their hearts, souls and minds. Not sure if requirements, like school vaccinations, will increase the numbers. Not sure if those requirements will proceed through the courts. Not sure how this will pan out. But for me and mine, we’ll be taking the vaccine.

There have been many medical miracles that have allowed us to live longer and healthier that many have no idea why they are alive today.
Maybe our educational system should add why we are alive today 101.

If it weren’t for all the innocents that are getting infected and dying, then I’d think we’re in some natural selection scenario where Mother Nature is forcing Darwin’s theory to be played out in warp speed.
