U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy denied on Friday that he was taking actions at the agency at President Trump’s behest, and pushed back on allegations that he was slowing down mail delivery to hamper the surge in absentee voting expected this fall.
I also love how DeJoy does a ‘both sides’ bit of BS when he made the argument that Congress needs to take action to shore up the finances of the USPS.
Especially since over the last few years, both the USPS and the Democrats have tried numerous times to push funding bills for them, or to get rid of the insane bill that forces the USPS to pre-fund 75 years of pensions. And the Republicans have stymied them every time and stated that nothing can be done to help the USPS (well, outside of their wanting to privatize it).
This used to go without saying, but attorneys general are not supposed to attend events affilliated with and promoted by political parties. And what is up with that sign over his head?
“If public policy makers choose to utilize the mail as a part of their election system, we will do everything we can to deliver election mail in a timely manner consistent with our operational standards,” he said. (“We do ask election officials and voters to be mindful of the time that it takes for us to deliver ballots,* whether it is a blank ballot going to a voter or a completed ballot going back to election officials.”
USPS seemed to be working well, even as it operated with a deficit, prior to his appointment. Why is it so f’cked up now?
I’m still getting mail in two days from places like Seattle and San Francisco but an order of seeds from South Carolina took almost three weeks. An order of masks took over four weeks getting to Portland from New York.
It’s fair to say that things have gone south since this guy was appointed.
