It’s bad enough that we have a president who is damaged by Adderall addiction and showing signs of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. His anti-American acts of sweeping people off the street, including citizens and disappearing them to Africa and who knows where else without due process. Sending the American army to American cities in opposition to the wishes of mayors in those cities.
Not supporting NATO allies in their wish to avoid Russian aggression. Doing everything but an armed take over of the US Central Bank with his attacks on the federal reserve. Whipping up hatred in the hours and days, and probably weeks after this recent assassination of an extremist influencer with a large political action committee.
Not to mention the entire Fox News, listening half of the country now wagingwar on trans citizens, despite them being peaceful and good citizens. I’m sure they pay more taxes than many billionaires. The connection to the Salt Lake City shooter is about as thin as it gets.
It is not just this president, but his entire administration. And enabled by US House of Representatives and Senate. Majority of the US Supreme Court is supportive for what he is doing and says that if the president does it, it’s legal. A supreme court that issues shadow docket rulings with no opinion, explaining reasons for president overturning decisions. And then tells lower courts that they must rule as SCOTUS did, without explaining why SCOTUS ruled such as they did. And if they don’t rule as SCOTUS would, that such a grievance act could be compared to contempt of the Supreme Court
It would be bad enough if it were just the president. With the whole of the federal government, tearing down the federal government, institutions, and now free speech and the rest of the US Constitution, I don’t see our country’s way out of this. Why, oh why was he reelected after the negligence and the malfeasance of the first administration?

Tax free status for religious organizations is state sponsorship of ALL religions, not an express lack of endorsement for one.
The First Amendment has been ignored completely in this regard. Of course, in those days, there were just Protestant churches - except for Maryland.
How can a church that claims that Jesus wants you to be rich pass even the slightest of smell tests? Tax-free status means support of the establishment, that is, the generationally wealthy.
The church has been pimping for the rich since God had the body of a man and the head of a dog.

And Rhode Island (a general religious sanctuary colony which included Catholics) and Pennsylvania (a more specifically Quaker sanctuary colony)–people often forget that there were serious disputes in the UK/England within the nominally “Protestant” groups. There was the “High Church” vs. the “Low Church” conflict (which was the largest conflict) but there were lots of smaller groups that everybody loved to hate on (like Quakers).

That SCOTUS bans health care has obvious implications. Everyone has focused on the gender aspect of this issue; however, a real implication is that the Federal government is asserting transgressive control over people’s bodies.
This is about fascism.

Imagine that you are a 16-year-old trans kid, maybe the only one in your high school, and everyone, and everyone’s parents, and everyone’s grandparents have decided to hate you, for no reason, other than a moral panic that they are using for boundary maintenance.
And you’re just a kid. You’re just a kid. Maybe you’re like a friend of my kids, and your devout Catholic mother just use the correct pronouns for you, your family is finally accepting you, but the entire world has turned against you.
This is evil.

This very issue of trans women in girls’ sports has come up in my school district because one of the school board members is a Christian Nationalist and she’s been pushing all the RW anti-trans talking points. When I went to a school board meeting last spring, where it seemed like half my town showed up, they let any students present speak first.
I was amazed and humbled by the students who spoke up in support of their trans friends or themselves. They were so smart, brave, and nuanced in their statements. I’ll never forget that night.

Just FYI, this guy, William M. Branham, is one of – and probably the primary among – the sources of the whole ugly web of greed-driven, hate-driven hypocritical “conservative churches” that now exist around the world (and especially concentrated in the U.S.), poisoning the minds of 10s of millions of people, turning them against reason, the law, the U.S. Constitution, anybody not white, empathy and all that stuff that we see alleged Christians hating and attacking now.
The very dangerous New Apostolic Reformation churches, joel Osteen’s operation, and the Christ for the Nations INstitute that radicalized the Minnesota Dem lawmakers’ murderer. among many others.
Branham was a rotten hypocritical charlatan who created a cult of manipulated people that continues to metastasize into additional sick “conservative Christian” cults today, even as Branham himself has been almost entirely forgotten. But I think it’s worth people knowing that all these separate right-wing religious groups come from the same hypocritical source that operated entirely in the 20th century. Nothing of “traditional Christianity” or the “real Bible” or the “real teachings of Christ” about it. It all traces to a 20th-century con man.

I share your pain and your anger. Every day I approach the news expecting something even worse. The most dismaying thing is that the destruction is all going forward at breakneck speed despite the fact that we keep being told the majority of our fellow citizens do not support these kind of extreme tactics.
