Navy Contractor In Riot Was Known By Colleagues For Anti-Semitic And White Supremacist Views | Talking Points Memo

The legal cause of action is “the devil made me do it.”

Really people should not be jumping to Dramatic Conclusions.

Not a high level clearance, pain in the ass to replace people in Clearance positions, bureaucratic inertia.

I find nothing saying what his real job was (there are janitorial positions with Secret clearances…) to know if he was a schmoe or something more sensitive.

Suspecting a schmoe.

That’s my experience too. It is kind of phenomenal. Spanish speaking crews do all the roofing here and it’s a brutal job.

I’d like to see these reservists involved in the insurrection called to active duty and court martialed. Send a message throughout the military culture.

This winter I hired a couple of Mexicans to blow the leaves off my 3/4 acre lawn and garden beds.
They worked for a little under two days until after dark for a total of $150. I tipped them another $50.

The same job usually took the other Mr. Newman and me at least 4 days.

Actually quoting re the Sergeant supervising

Investigators confronted the sergeant about the contradiction last week and he told them he didn’t feel obligated to tell the court what he told NCIS and wasn’t personally offended by Hale-Cusanelli’s comments.

Worth reading this tweet excert here. Either Sergeant Getz has colossally bad judgment (no strike that, he has colossally bad judgement) or he’s a sympathizer (which is really to say is it naive bad judgement or motivated bad judgement)

I like Tribe, but that sounds preposterous. I certainly believe family members of any victims have a case against him, but I will eat my fucking ballot if one of the rioters successfully sues DT for “making” them do it.

I’m trying to figure out what the cause of action would be in a suit by one of the insurrectionists against the MFWWNBN.

I once had a hearing before the Arizona Registrar of Contractors in which I got the (white) homeowner (I was representing the contractor) to admit that he had demanded n all white, English speaking crew to re-roof his house in Phoenix in August. Everyone in the court room started laughing as soon as he said it.

I know you’re talking about DT, but Imma need a translation on that one.

I bet they did. I haven’t seen a white, English speaking crew on a roof in Texas in 20 years at least.

@trnc - motherfucker who will not be named.

That was my first thought as well, what stretch it is. But it’s possible a lot of these folks have never been in trouble before, and could make a pretty good case they were radicalized with false information from a source they’d been brought up to trust. It’s like a cult leader inducing you to commit a crime you never would have without that influence being brought to bear. So it might be very possible to make this argument.

The Amish do all the roofing in my parts.

Word. Our way of life will cease to exist if we don’t have robust immigration. Welcome our immigrants, we can’t survive without them.

As someone who has been an immigrant to two other countries and lives now here in the US with my immigrant wife and two kids I agree with this, but there’s another, equally pervasive problem we face. The US economy has grown tremendously over the past generation, but the concentration of wealth is about the worst it’s ever been. My dad’s generation benefited from growing wealth with a five day work week and could raise a family and buy a house on a single middle class wage, today Bezos makes thousands of times what one of his factory workers makes.

Lots of reasons for this - the acceptance of globalization, changes in cultural expectations, the fall of unions, the hijacking of government by the elites but it’s clear that as a nation we’ve allowed this to happen and need to reverse the arc. Higher taxes on unearned income? Remove the cap on social security contributions? Single Payer Health Care? A four day work week? Why not? The nation can afford it, even if the middle class can’t right now…

To be fair, the professor didn’t suggest the suits might be successful. Just that they may have an actual case that wouldn’t get circular filed immediately …

I, on the other hand, asked for a competent crew----90% Hispanic, as it turned out.
