America really isn’t that complicated: everyone is welcome. That’s about it. You don’t like that? Leave.

There’s a not-entirely-implausible thought that this Senate could carve out a Voting Rights exception to the filibuster (similar to the Judicial Nomination exception) by an appeal to ego that forever honored it as “The Manchin Rule” – like the filibuster-related “Byrd Rule”, named after a fellow West Virginian senator.

If so, then hello HR-1, and goodbye GOP voter suppression.

If this guy gets bail, he should have to go live in a Holocaust Museum. Though it might be lost on him.

No you aren’t shallow. There is something amiss with someone who cannot let go of something that they think has wronged them in some way.

Ah, but they feel like they’re being invaded, these particular Americans. These perceived invaders may have been here for ten thousand years, or maybe were brought as slaves four centuries ago, long before the “Americans” managed to get here themselves. Doesn’t matter.

Well, as long as they don’t have to own up to their own failures in life.

I suspect it’s for the same reason they don’t go booting every sexist asshole out of Silicon Valley. You wouldn’t have very many people left.

It’s so prevalent that it leads me to believe that it is as much a part of that military/law enforcement culture (in which there’s much crossover) as substance abuse and sexual harassment/assault. It all stems from a culture in which toxic masculinity is king. If you think being a man makes you special then it stands to reason that so does being white, hetero, and/or being Christian.

Another remembered their reservist colleague allegedly saying at one time, “Jews, women, and blacks were on the bottom of the totem pole.”

Well, this sort of reduces his dating options right off the top. Particularly if he opens his mouth.

Dan Reed - The Dictator:

Our birth rate is dropping off the edge like it is in Europe. The only reason this is a problem (since I think too many of us exist for the health of the planet) is we cannot sustain the governmental and economic models we all live by if the labor pool shrinks too much in relation to the rest of the population. (see: Greece.)

What’s the answer? Immigration. We fucking need immigrants here working if we want to keep being able to retire; if we want sustainable universal health care, and on and on. We need these people who want to emigrate here.

I’m having a hard time letting go of the previous president, his administration, and republican politicians in general, hope that doesn’t make me another creep?

There is a reason that people are talking about Voter Suppression. It’s that serious a problem. As constructed, the GOP’s only viable road to what they call “success” is through taking away the voting rights of people they do not want to cast a vote.

It is so paramount that they are avoiding dog whistle-like intimations and instead making their wishes as plain as possible so that their voters will positively respond to them for that purpose: permanent Republican rule.

That is a Sea Change in politics. That throws out the metaphors and phrases like “across the aisle” or “making a choice” (based on actual offerings).

I think Voting Reform is almost a done deal. Passing that bill would give Dems quite an advantage by simply providing Dem voters with a level playing field. Also, it’s become critical to the continuation of democracy. As long as the GQP can just strike voters from the rolls, gerrymander the hell out of states, keep various “others” from voting, etc, they don’t have to come up with actual policies that appeal to anyone outside of their core base. They can just keep churning out voter restrictions that keep them in power in perpetuity.
