Almost five months after rushing to the Capitol during the deadly insurrection on Jan. 6, the National Guard is reportedly set to depart Capitol grounds this week, according to the Washington Post.

If the FBI hasn’t applied for warrants to surveil House members who were complicit in the attack already, they certainly should post haste.

Surveillance of members of Congress is extremely tricky, so it’s unlikely that they have done so without some clear evidence of complicity in the planning of the violence. Giving a tour won’t be enough, they will have to show actual linkages…but, the members of Congress who might have provided support are all dumb enough to have left evidence, or interacted with morons that will turn on them to save their asses, so if they were actually involved actively then we’ll know. Their statements and votes aren’t enough, though they should be enough to get them voted out.

This is why DC needs to be it’s own state and have their own access to the Guard. Never imagined a President (in name only) could mess this up. Fortunately, as usual, they were incompetent.

I also send my appreciation to the rank and file members of the National Guard who did their duty as asked honorably and conscientiously. I regret they were forced into service because of Trump and his supporters and that their sacrifices continue to be unacknowledged and even disparaged by Republicans who downplay or flat out lie about the events on that day.

The Minority Leader can’t even face a severely injured member of the Capitol police. I won’t hold my breath waiting for him to thank the National Guard by pushing for a real investigation.

A situation unique in Modern American History.

…getting people to accept as “normal” what isn’t.

Is there any doubt that if Trump had the Twitter and Facebook megaphones he formerly possessed, reaching tens of millions, that he would be calling for another march on Washington and another attempted insurrection?

Maybe but I remember reading the white power groups are being very quiet (like no one showed for rally). They may think the election was rigged but I think they also don’t trust the former guy to have their backs.

Five bucks to anyone who spots the disconnect in thinking here.

The GOP would agree to extra money for Congressional protective services, but they want to tie it to a bill reducing the corporate tax rate to zero and funds for an alligator filled moat along the southern border.

Could we negotiate them down to Caimans?

Well, OK, but they have to be rabid and carry leprosy.

Thinking? Who was doing that? Certainly not in the Trump administration.

Lingering questions

Those questions are off to the side, just hanging around, trying to not be obvious. They do not want to be forgotten but are too polite to make a lot of noise. They are patient, someone will eventually get around to them even if it is to be shown out the door as it is closing time. No questions allowed in the building after hours thank you. Try again tomorrow. They might get a committed maybe.

Damn it, these are present, immediate and impactful questions. Not threads dissipating into the air.

what about . . .

no.

So how long before they attack once the NG is gone? Couple weeks, give or take?
