Nail In Coffin? Facing Toughest Race Yet, Collins Forced To Answer For Kavanaugh Vote

Last child of Holy Roman Empress Maria Theresa of Austria. Francis I had the title through marriage and never wielded power–the Emperor Consort, so to speak, who reigned but never ruled.

You know your history.

Kudos.

Oh, this happened waaaaay before Trump: we keep talking about moderates leaving the party only because our definition of “moderate Republican” has changed over the years. It used to mean Nelson Rockefeller or George Romney; now it means, “a Republican who believes that a woman can have an abortion if her life is in danger.” Sooner than you can imagine, it will mean, “Doesn’t want to kill all minorities.”

Collins used to be fairly moderate and independent. If she voted to impeach or against Kavanaugh, she’d get a primary challenger and no GOP money. So, she sold her soul. In short, the moderates who don’t leave the party stop being moderates except by hand-wringing. “I’m concerned.”

Susan Collins and her colleagues in the Senate are complicit in everything trump has done. They shirked their responsibility and violated their oath to conduct a fair and impartial trial. Collins has violated her oath of office. That alone disqualifies her.
How anyone can vote to send a republican, any republican, back to the US Senate is beyond me.

I’m fine with Betsy Sweet not being the nominee. Like I said, she would be slaughtered in the rural areas.

Susan Collins was never in any danger of leaving the GOP. Her “moderation” and “independence” is a media fantasy.

The last time Susan Collins ran for Senator in 2014, Paul LePage was elected as Governor of Maine. The Republicans held the state Senate. In 2018 the Democrats took over both chambers of the Maine legislature and the Governor’s office. Joe Biden currently outpolls Trump by 10 points in Maine.

Susan Collins is facing strong headwinds this year.

I can’t believe Olympia Snowe has been away from the Senate for only seven years. It seems like forever. I sure miss her. What a decent person she was. Articulate, wise, and could influence both sides of the aisle. sigh

Good to hear. Thanks.

Maria Theresa (1717-1780) was never actually crowned empress. As the only female ruler in the House of Habsburg, she was the Archduchess of Austria and the Queen of Hungary and Bohemia. … Though the official ruler was actually her husband, Francis I, she governed the Habsburg monarchy single-handedly.

The great Utah Phillips!

Until you see the horrible campaign her challenger is running. I will believe Collins gets voted out when it happens.

As for LePage, he won with ~40% of the vote both times. Not really representative of the time.

Just an fyi, an internal RSCC poll shows Collins up 45-37 right now.

Thanks.

Do you know when it was completed?

Right before the SC abortion vote I think

Fuck her.

Collins is not a moderate. She is an enabler of Trumpism. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/congress-trump-score/susan-m-collins/

538 lists that pollster as b/c and partisan. It is also interesting that this poll is registered voters versus the earlier polls which were likely voters.

My point was that she once was a moderate. Moderate and centrist no longer has a place in the GOP, so she’s moved right with the party. Basically, that’s what has happened to moderates, they either left the party or moved to the far right with the party.

I hope she loses big time, but I’m getting a steady stream of ads saying Sara Gideon enabled a sexual predator for 6 months before taking action. The truth is that she didn’t kick the guy out on the first whiff of a rumor, but waited for more substantial evidence. Hardly the sign of someone soft on predation.
