House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler’s argument Thursday against President Trump’s interpretation of what constitutes an impeachable offense used the words of Trump’s top supporters against him.
Garcia is taking the guts out of the countervailing theories and putting the GOP on notice that to defend Trump is to embrace Russian propaganda. Garcia is not the best speaker, but her outline is methodical and clear. Schiff will probably repackage all of this and punctuate it.
Trying to imagine how I’d feel if I was being shown to be a hypocritical lying POS in front of the Senate and the world. But then I still have the ability to imagine. 51 of these things are using oxygen but they’re not technically sentient beings with the ability to do anything but lie and hate. Oh and an occasional crossword.
Roberts is treating his role exactly the same way as C.J. Rehnquist did during the Clinton impeachment. You can blame the Senate impeachment rules for that, because they give Roberts no authority that can’t be overridden by a simple majority vote. Furthermore, nothing in the rules require the Senators to remain in their seats, or even to attend the trial at all.
Look, we all know that this won’t change the Trial outcome, but making the Republicans eat their own words now is brilliant strategy for November. And in the near term it puts Graham, Dershowitz, Barr and Turley on the defensive.
