Musing That Racism Isn’t As Bad As It Was, 5th Circuit Mulls Further Neutering Voting Rights Act

Conservatives on the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals occasionally sounded like Fox News talking heads Tuesday as they weighed whether coalitions composed of multiple minority groups are protected under the Voting Rights Act.

Racism isn’t as bad as it was. Clearly we need to get to work rectifying that situation.

The public sophistry continues with the fate of black families the crux.

Same churches, same ideas, more money.

Balls to all of these ignorant chumps, and fuck their system of elevating POSs to government jobs they use to serve the rich only.

This whole argument stems from rich people with dull children who will blame anything else but their own child’s scholastic inferiority.

“Has the world not changed from a racial standpoint”?

Sure it has: the Southern Poverty Law Center makes a compelling case that the world has worsened from a racial standpoint (by “world,” we can substitute the Deep South).

That might not be the change these Texas lawmen sought by asking the question. But it’s really the only right answer to that question.

They’ve been hanging folk to get elected since the year dot in Texas.

I can’t wait for all of this to backfire (if we’re able to make it that far)…the day when white Christian conservatives end up having well and truly become a minority who managed to erase all the protections they’re going to need, having abused power to kill protections for minorities in an effort maintain power in the face of demographic shifts shrinking them to minority status.

These fuckers are animated in part by deep paranoia and fear of race-retribution…and yet they seem to be doing everything they can to assure that their comeuppance is absolutely fucking brutal.

Precisely so and the reasoning is quite clear: protections intended to level the playing field in any respect for an historically disadvantaged outgroup are a violation of the conservative canon; i.e., facially incorrect.

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

There is nothing more or else to it, and there never has been, in any place or time.

You can expect a Judge called Ho to be in cahoots with the rich and powerful.

“Has the world not changed from a racial standpoint?” Um… let’s see:
I haven’t noticed the colored & white drinking fountains but environmental pollution is still rampant in communities of color. But the esteemed Justices wouldn’t know about such disparities. None are so blind, as those who can see but refuse.

The racism of 60 years ago, when the Voting Rights Act was passed by Congress, was enlivened by cross-burnings at the homes of black families, something not seen today. But voter suppression continues and should be addressed by new legislation from Congress to get ahead of the right-wing sophists on the federal bench.

Since when is it the job of the courts to decide if laws should be changed or repealed?

That is what the “conservatives” are doing is behaving like Republican legislators and using the majorities of unelected judges to override elected legislatures.

My only question is when are we going to start calling these judges and justices what they are, Republicans and not conservatives. I mean conservative judges are above all else suppose to defer to the legislative branch and enforce but not make law.

Racist say that racism isn’t that bad. Shocked!

They’re not making law; they’re systematically trying to undo them ALL, right down to the core structures of our democratic constitutional republic.

Secession by any other name still smells like treason.

These judges are delusional.

It is impossible to overstate the importance of the upcoming election and its impact of the future of the courts. We cannot fuck this up.
