The GA flag is literally just the First National Flag of the confederacy that was the “compromise” from removing the confederate battle flag from it. But it’s still a slave owners flag.
I don’t know if it’s already been tried, but I would think the first ballot initiative in this process should be to get a majority to replace the flag (by a certain date), without specifying the design, except that it should be a complete overhaul (to prevent a new, slightly altered design from being adopted).
Once that principle has been adopted, with a deadline to prevent filibustering, then there can be a second vote to choose which of a short list of designs should be adopted.
Come November, Trump is going to claim credit for getting rid of all confederate flags and statues, and claim that his presidency has been the best for blacks since Abraham Lincoln. I can almost hear him.
It only took them 148 years to ratify the 13th amendment.
Who are those "some people?"
They discovered that there was no such thing as n-(clang!) blood just last month. Its revolutionized transfusions.
Well, I don’t know their actual ‘names’ but you can identify them easily by their hoods.
Virtute et armis (Latin “By valor and arms”) is a state motto of Mississippi.
As I Lay Dying is a 1930 Southern Gothic novel by American author William Faulkner—his fifth novel, it is consistently ranked among the best novels of 20th-century literature.
It’s shorter and more accessible than most of Faulkner’s later work.
It’s interesting to note that Mississippi’s social and economic and educational retardation have all been caused by 150 years of very conservative government—first by the racist Dixiecrats and now by the racist Republicans.
the state is about 37% black, and if they registered and voted in sufficient numbers (which they do not) the whole state could change in a decade or so.
It was voted in 1995 but not officially reported until 2013. The mail moves slowly in Mississippi.
That should help to calm things down.
How the flaming fuck does a trained professional allow things to escalate from “asleep in the drive through” to “shot dead”?
Friend of ours was offered a professorship at some MS university several years back. He was considering it until his wife (who worked bar in N’Orleans for several years to support both of them) told him she ain’t gonna live in that backward, racist religious sh*thole of a state no matter what the dollars or academic prestige (I think she was pissed that he was considering it).
@sharksbreath is correct. Hate to say it, but MS is a sh*thole by most any measure, and they will not change the flag in our lifetime.
Allegedly, shot 3 times in the back.
Added:
Maybe tasers should also shoot tranquilizer darts. After the needle sinks in, just sit back and wait until you can cuff them. It’s pretty fast
Since the George Floyd/BLM protests have electrified the country, perhaps it will give Mississippi the incentive to finally enter the 15th Century.
Hey! What about Hawaii and their tribute to our former imperialist oppressors? (and can someone look up what side Hawaii was on during the Civil War? Just askin’)
David Duke, KKK and other people who want to stay confederate flags.
That’s not an insult, Bubba. Black Christians have brought the light of truth and justice to the people’s House for as long as I can remember. There are a lot of those in Mississippi.
Bill Maher, OTOH, is an insult to the human race.
It has been years, but we drove through MS in an Army convoy on back roads to avoid clogging bigger highways as much as possible. I was in awe. If I did not know I was in MS I would think I had been parachuted into the hinterlands of some 3rd world country. When we had to stop for food or fuel, locals looked at us as if we were an alien invasion.
Before a ballot initiative I would recommend a forceful voter registration effort…
It looks like the stars and bars quadrant was just slapped on top of the original flag. Sloppy. Lazy. Fugly.
