I’m sure there’s a reasonable explanation [/s]
"It doesn’t feel like there’s anywhere safe anymore
Iowa just passed a law protecting gun accessory businesses from lawsuits. Call it the Brownell’s Protection Bill, in honor of Pete Brownell, the dupe who was President of the NRA (and theoretically LaPierre’s boss) and went on the Russia Excursion with Mariia
The shooter would tell you his motive, but then he’d have to kill you.
Fair point. Also, for the record, if I am appointed supreme dictator for life, I am going to ask the DOJ to fully investigate the links between the NRA and that former KGB Agent who runs Russia, and the politicians that the NRA counts as “allies.” I’d like to spend some quality time discussing their priorities, loyalties, and funding.
Face it…there was no " motive" there does not need to be a motive now…mental illness is rampant and not sufficiently addressed in the " best country in the world"… where citizens can’t go to the store without fear of being accosted or murdered…
Rampant mental illness that is unaddressed year after year.
You may be going about this the wrong way …
How many guns does it take for an armed society to become a polite society?
I’m waiting for that to start happening. Any day now, right?
We hardly keep up with medical problems for people. The mental problems are ignored and hoping they’ll go away.
For such as “advanced” country, we are in the toilet of advancement.
I think you have to be a citizen of Idaho to be eligible for that office.
You may be going about this the wrong way …
Oh. Damn. Well, that would explain why it is taking so much longer than I thought it would. I had just blithely assumed that by posting reasonable ideas here on TPM’s forum, my fame and reputation would grow, and eventually the people would demand that I step into that role.
I guess I will have to reconsider my approach.
Is it normal to not release his name almost 20 hours later?
Maybe it’s part of trying to get the media to not make a celebrity of this guy?
eventually the people would demand that I step into that role.
I have – but, like all my other demands …
I had just blithely assumed that by posting reasonable ideas here on TPM’s forum, my fame and reputation would grow, and eventually the people would demand that I step into that role.
Get some piano wire, a dank, grimy basement in an abandoned warehouse, and three mentally disturbed underlings with pronounced sociopathic tendencies. That’ll get you started.
Or did this guy start disrobing as he was killing people?
He was almost certainly made to disrobe by the cops, who would have been checking (at a distance) for additional weapons or explosives.
The data is not collected because Congress under Repubs specifically banned the collection of that data in the late 90’s. If you don’t have good data, it is really hard to create programs to address the unquantified problem or measure its efficacy.
ETA: I see some folks got there first. Nice to know those strictures are being eased. Nevertheless, the memory of the Dickey amendment probably still deters researchers from jumping into this particular area of study.
If its not a high priority, it never happens… Repealing is basically the same process as adding a new amendment. And of course, even proposing repealing the 2nd Amendment would kick off a MASSIVE wave of energy on the right; its the thing they dream about the left attempting.
But, unfortunately, no reasonable gun control laws can be proposed and passed because of the current interpretations of the 2nd Amendment. Its not just the only Amendment they know, they have radicalized the meaning of it tremendously in the last 20 years. For example, its now considered gospel on both sides of aisle that there is a guaranteed right for individual to bear arms; yet up until the early 2000s, the 2nd Amendment was widely interpreted by the Courts to only give States the ability to regulate their own gun laws, not as an individual right to buy guns.
suggesting that he was using a gun and bullets suitable for major warfare,
Yes, if it’s true that he was using an AR-15 clone, the bullets were purposely designed to tumble on impact, resulting in horrific wounds. In fact, these are about the only bullet loads you can get in that caliber (.223).
And no, there is no true hunting use for these rifles.
