Most of what they do when they’re not actually killing people is performative. Even these odious voter suppression laws are a performance of a kind put on by people who several months ago repeatedly swore up and down that the election was fair. Should parts or all of these laws be struck down by the courts, they’ll then put on a performance about activist judges. It never ends.

Hey, Catholic League, the point you miss is that I don’t care if a person is gay or straight or goes back and forth. It has no effect on me or my life unless they are hitting on me, in which case, as a happily married person, I would decline, politely.

They simply do not understand that most of us simply don’t care if someone is gay or straight or whatever. They think that because it matters to them, it has to matter one way or another to everyone.

Let me also add that ‘survey’ seems similar to polling, and polling is a sampling, ergo their method of determining if state colleges and universities have equal political party, political ideology represented on campus seems arbitrary.
As for the students being allowed to record lectures so they can prove a case of indoctrination against a professor seems to fail in understanding 1) you can teach political theory without discussing all sides of the political spectrum, and 2) audio recordings can be manipulated.

60 votes is required to impose cloture, which is the process by which debate is closed and the bill is sent to the floor for a vote. But the rule was changed, eliminating the debate part entirely.
Filibuster is the process of unlimited debate. They don’t even bother with that part anymore. Historically, the cloture vote was required to end a filibuster.

Exactly the reason for Democrats to stay the course, that being to keep the focus on Manchin and the filibuster - that has been amended before and someone is going to have to get creative with a talking filibuster. Sen Merkeley and others have offered proposals to reform the filibuster, to require less than 60 votes for cloture. If nothing else it would force the a Republican to stand up and defend the party’s position. Simply stating Democrat “power grab” will not work. Of course nothing else will get done legislatively but nothing will get done anyway if McConnell wins today’s battle.
Controlling Senate and House majorities next November (2022 mid-terms) will be up for grabs. Democrats have to stay with the idea to find a way to win today. They can’t let go of this.
