Yep. Entirely performative and unserious. Itās a hot-button issue for them, though. Peopleās kids come back from school questioning everything and being smartypantses and Ma and Pa watch FOX and find out itās a big conspiracy. DeSantis, who is far from stupid, can go out and say he tried but the perfidious courts wouldnāt let him so we have to make them stop legislating from the bench and around and around it goes.

It used to be I could email my Rep or senator and say Iād withhold my vote for them over something. But if they take that right and trash it where does that leave us?

Not at all. The Repubs donāt have any good arguments. Saying the truth out loud wonāt help them in any way. By killing it with procedural moves, they can shift the blame for failure onto the Dems without ever addressing the substance of the bills. For them, it is a win-win - the Dems eat the loss and the voting rights bill goes down.

Goobers are straight up against a fair election. They must cheat to win.
Thatās why they are against this bill. This failure does let state goobers restrict voting with impunity. Just watch what happens in the next months. I see it here in AZ. My polling place is two blocks from my house. My retired neighbors run it when itās time to vote. We have a city council election primary coming in August and theyāll be getting a piece of my mind if they get snippy with me.

DeSantis is just the sort of populist authoritarian to go out and thread the needle in 2024 and win an election for Prez. The DOJ and courts are going to be tied up for the next several years prosecuting insurrectionists and possibly various ex-Trump officials, Trump family members (?) and maybe even Trump himself. All sorts of victim crap will be floating around, āThe liberal Communist Dem meanies want to cancel and jail every patriotic red blooded American!!ā
Do not write DeSantis off. And do not be surprised if one Biden term turns out to be merely a brief respite from a long, grinding descent into Hungary-lite for the nation.
