Morning Memo: Big New Reveal On Trump’s Conspiracy To Subvert The Election

Here’s what caught our attention.

Democrats on the House Oversight Committee released a trove of emails this morning that laid out how Trump persistently tried to pressure then-acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen to take up the legal challenge to the 2020 election results on the basis of MAGAland’s ridiculous conspiracy theories.

Did these people really believe that all of this wouldn’t become public?

They were counting on a Trump Crime Family dynasty to bury everything…

(But mostly they were just stupid.)

This. And lazy. They had gotten away with similar things for four years, so didn’t feel the need to be subtle about it anymore.

Totalitarian Dictators are never criminals, while in office.

They were planning on the coverup and if they won, they would see that happened.

They studied the Nixon playbook and ramped it up.

I was curious about the Carlson segment. It turns out to be a “they’re canceling Audobon!” reaction to this article in the Post which talks about bird names such as the Townsend’s warbler:

John Kirk Townsend… a Philadelphia-born ornithologist in the early 1800s, dug up and collected skulls for studies that sought to prove the inferiority of Indigenous people.

Yeah, okay, Tucker you rich wannabe Nazi Propaganda stooge, spinning a just historical cumuppance for a long-dead “racial scientist” into an existential threat to all living white people is actually racist and so are you, you spray-tan-raccoon-faced agitprop-spewing simpleton.

I was in the DDR in the 1980s…passing though, using the DDR’s part of the Autobahn. At the time, I did not tell my kids where we were, in terms of “country”.

I never even thought about whatever was the difference between the speed limits in the Bundesrepublik and the DDR.

I drove about 80-100 KPH the whole time.

Seriously, if Biden (and Garland) don’t take bold action here to hold people accountable, it will hurt all the Democrats next year. People are angry and “moving on” when it comes to treasonous actions and crimes will not suffice.

I asked the BC hiway patrolman who pulled me over on the Kokahala Hiway what the difference was between 100 KPH and 100 MPH and he replied “100 dollars”.

If they take no action at all, and there hasn’t been a second insurrection leading up to the mid-terms, it’ll affect roughly zero races.

Aside from the hyped-up and connected people here at TPM, the wider country outside the beltway doesn’t give too much of a shit so long as they’ve got enough money to pay the bills, their sports teams are playing, the kardashians are renewed for another season, etc.

I am counting more on our being angry than despondent. The GOP works at dominance messaging (no matter what the objective reality is) in order to get people to self-defeat and come to believe that the fight is hopeless…in a sense this Manchin Tap Dance–together with the GOP state legislatures boldly-in-plain-sight proclaiming, “Your Vote Will Not EVER Count”–is part of that overall strategy.

And that is the primary reason my posts tend to be optimistic.

There are enough wet blankets. If we give up without a fight, there is no one** else available to help us.

**The Germans at least had the Allies (from OUTSIDE) to rid themselves of a Totalitarian.

We have to defeat Trumpism all on our Own

I disagree. We aren’t talking plain old scandal here, after all. To not prosecute would be egregious, not to mention the message it sends. Just appoint a Special Prosecutor - end of story for now.
